Should I stockpile ammo?

gasoline goes 'bad' in about 6 months--one reason is all the additives in it. and after a long time(years or more) depending on how it was stored, turns into a shellac like substance.
stock pile lead; offered properly, it can be used for barter ;)

1000 rds of 9mm would be close to $300, that will take some time to accomplish. The 1000 rds of .22 will be easy, I just need to pickup another brick.

I like Treo's "ammunition futures" analogy! I want an ample supply for many reasons on many levels.

You can Never have too much garlic or too much ammo!

If you aren't a shooter and just want a big pile of ammo "just in case" it most likely isn't worth the expense.

"Just in case" sounds like it may be here sooner than later. Isn't CA putting an ammo ID policy into place in the next year or so? That will only mean increases in ammo prices (hiring all those little elves to micro-stamp those little bullets).

BTW...Are the anti activists aware that when they make ammo all but unobtainable with their various schemes, it is likely to create a HUGE "criminal" blackmarket in "illegal" ammo? Just what this country needs: a "War on Ammo".

Silly question to ask here! That's like asking if we like guns. :D

Yes, stock up. You don't have to do it all at once if you can't afford to. Set a realistic goal based on things like caliber, available storage, etc. Then, just remember to pick up a box or two whenever you go to the store (vague Wal-mart reference) and in no time you'll have reached your goal.

If you're hoarding rice, you definitely should be hoarding bullets to defend it...

But most bullet hoarders would be aghast at the idea of someone hoarding food.

I make it a point to pick up at least two boxes of something everytime I go to a store that sells ammo...

Went to Wal-mart last Saturday, picked up two 100 rounds boxes .45s for the Glock

Went again on Sunday, got two more and two 550 rnd bricks of .22

Yesterday, I picked up two boxes of .308s...

Next time I'll pick up a few boxes of 12 gauge...

Fortunately, my wife finds a reason to go to Wal-Mart at least once a week...

I just wish there were a few gun stores around here with somewhat decent selection and some what decent prices...

Should you 'stockpile' ammo?

I'm still shooting 9mm I paid $3.83 per 50 for.

I won't bore you with the other prices...:D

I havn't bought any ammo since October.

That answer?

Academy Has frequent sales and good prices as a rule. Get all you can get your hands on.

That might sound extreme, but if you're younger than I am (62) you could live long enough to see push come to shove. Anti's would certainly see the value of rationing ammunition and implement that policy if given half a chance.

Stored properly, ammunition can last a looong time. If there's ever a shortage, you don't want to miss going to the range because you haven't enough ammo. You can car pool as many already are doing, but you can't "pool" a finite number of rounds and have enough to go around. Especially if you and a few others are providing the bulk of the supply.

Troubled times, my friends. Take care and be pro active.

That's what I'm saying. Im stockpiling rice, an assortment of can foods, stockpiling seeds for my Garden and many more items.

Along with stockpiling ammo to defend this food. 1k for each caliber is my rule. But I'm thinking about an additional 1k in .22 and .223.

In the event of a economic collapse I refuse to be one of those who is saying
" I should've....." You can never be too prepared.

Do you honestly not understand the difference between the California microstamping bill and the various ammo serialization bills? If you are going to use legislation as the basis for stocking up, at least pick one that makes sense.

What, are you going to go out and shoot a herd of breadbeasts or hunt for the elusive potato?

I have noticed that the price in ammo is going up. I am planning on buying a 9mm hand gun and a maybe a CX4.

Would it be wise to start hoarding ammo now before the price goes up?

If you have enough information to prompt you to ask this question, then I submit you have enough information to answer it yourself.

I believe the obvious answer is yes - as much as you think you will ever want or need to shoot, barter, sell etc for the rest of your life.... and when you have that much, buy about 10% - 25% more just as a fudge factor.

As much as you can, as soon as you can. Same thing with firearms. You can't have too much, and you don't want to be caught at some point with too little.

Guess who's getting the food.

I have both... It would be much easier to just hoard your own food :)

Or come to the door empty handed in which case I'll split my last bowl of rice with you. But I ain't splitting the last box of ammo.
