Ok, this is where I'm at. Aside from the AR stock still in the mail for the shotgun most of this setup is semi permanent.

.30 Carbine - Two 10 rnds mags + Two 30 rnds mags

9mm - Three 10 rnds mags - Uncle Mikes Kyndex(sp?) hip holster (not pictured)

12ga. - 5 +1 mag tube - full stock

Ka-Bar - 7 inch blade - leather sheath

In the box...
100 rnds Remington 9mm 115 gr. FMJ
100 rnds Remington 30 Carbine 110gr. SP
25 rnds Federal #4 shot
10 rnds Federal 00 Buck

I figured I'd add the knife as it is useful for a plethora of purposes. As a matter of fact I'd probably use that the most.

I think alot of you will be happy to see my changes, sorry for the stress I caused ;). Also, I forgot the mayonaise rick... maybe next time. I don't really see how mayo will help me float, but i'll take your word for it. The lube part I have experience with so I know your telling the truth there... :D

I too have a four legged security system, but she's old and fat. She ALWAYS stays by my side. So, if she noticed an intruder, chances are I would have aready noticed them/him/her myself. She's a deeper sleeper then me aswell. In the event of a break-in or camp robbery she would probably be just waking up as I'm already going for whatever advantage I can get my hands on in a hurry. Here's her pic for you dog lovers.

Well for now I went the cheap route and got the ATI one for about 60 bucks. What I really want tho is one from mesa tactical or the SST-500 from cav-arms. Those are about $150 - $250 depending on the package you get. Thats about the same price as the shotgun in the first place so I think im gonna hold off on that. I just feel like the ATI stock is gonna snap in half when I shoot it!!! :banghead: :D

While the choices are not bad, the reasoning disturbs me.

The .30 carbine is fine for general use. The "less likely to shoot your neighbors" comment bothers me though. .30 rounds WILL penetrate walls - at least enough to be dangerous. Sheetrock walls are concealment, not cover.

The .22 pistol is fine - very compact, lots of lightweight ammo. The "for shooting people you really don't want to kill" comment bothers me though. .22 rounds CAN kill. Word is more people are killed by .22LR rounds than any other. If you pull a trigger on anyone with any caliber, death had better be an acceptable outcome.

The 12ga PGO is debatable - good only for very close range. It practically cannot be aimed, and accuracy beyond "very close" is iffy at best (I've tried skeet with one - poor results under best conditions). Put a stock on it for far better results; folding or collapsing stock gives the compact format you want.

Thanks for your advise ctdonath. You may notice I have updated the list. I've taken out the 22. and the PG on the shotgun altogether so it's not really an issue. Where I live all the houses are old and the walls are all solid wood so I apologize for giving what could be unsound info.

Oh and Jeremy, now that you mentioned it I think I like that Knoxx stock, I'll have to get some more info. Many have said it better then I but... too many choices!

My SHTF set up is an Bushy AR (20inch fixed stock), SKS, Rem. 870 (18.5inch rifle sights), Colt 1991 A1 stainless, Ruger SP-101 .357 (3inch), Glock 17. All the rest of the toys are put in the safe (unless there needed as well). :p

youre progressing devlcl the next thing id be looking into is some more magazines preferably of the over 10 rd veriety unless ur a inmate of a clintonmag state.

ive read in some publications and heard from knowledgeable people that the 30 rd carbine mags are not as realiable as the 15rd mags the gun was designed for.the 30rders were made for the m2 select fire carbine which had some kinda reinforced mag catch that could hold them well.

another thing that may make you consider 15rd carbine mags is the fact they stick out less permiting you to get lower to the ground which is always helpfull for accurate distance shooting and perforation prevention.and if thats not enough heres another reason;

if you stock up on full capacity mags for your ruger 9mm you will find they also hold 15 rounds this gives you comonality with your rifle making it alot easier to keep a accurate count of shots fired.

so whenever possible get some factory ruger 15rd mags for that hgun asap check with others on here about what i said in ref to 15rd carbine mags being better.

unlike alot of people my fave ak mag isnt the 30 or 40rders its the 20rd hungarian mag for the amd65 a compact ak used by airborne, tankers and police.this mag takes exactly 1 box of ammo sticks down 3 inches less than a 30rder.and since my aks are semiauto 20 rounds is plenty for most situs.

loose cannon - Good points, but they may all be moot as he's in California. 10 rd mags are the rule unless you owned them before the ban (friends tell of buying cases of AK mags before they even had an AK just to get under the wire). I'm not sure how USGI Carbine mags would be regulated. They are over 10rd. but are homegrown and many restrictive states consider the Carbine to be more socially acceptable than the AK/AR/FAL/G3 sets. Probably because no one wants to remember Grandpa as a mudering nut as he carried a Carbine in the war!!

Heres some food for thought :) now that you have a P series Handgun and an M1

I just had an idea so heres some food for thought.

Ruger makes a cool lil carbine called the PC9 or the Police Carbine Nine. It uses the Ruger P series Handgun Mags, so your 9mm mags for the handgun can be used with the Carbine, it along with thier 10/22 has a stock very similar to the M1 Carbine profile, so it would feel right at home, the coolness like he stated was the commonality of Mag capacity, and it would be really cool to have the swapability from the handgun to the Carbine, not saying you need another gun, but its just an option. I have considered the PC9, even though I wouldn't be able to share mags with the Taurus, the 9mm would be a common round between the 2, 9mm is cheap and highly effective IMHO and just a tad more potent out of a carbine length barrel, my other 2 choices are the .22 which I would be grabbing as an absolute last resort or the other option though more than highly effective is the new Mosin I just bought, but the 7.62x54R rounds it uses are a bit too much for indoors, Im scared to actually employ it in here especially being an apartment where I really would have to worry about how many walls and peoples units those would punch through, the 9mm carbine is a nice idea as it makes the good ol parabellum round a bit more effecient, but its not too much for an indoors situation, it would be much more controlled at least IMHO than the handgun, and Im all about shot placement, one shot one kill etc... Anyhow its just a suggestion as I have considered an M1 because I think they are cool, I love the profile and the way it feels in my arms, and starting to get obsessed about collecting milsurps, that stupid C and R thing is something I shouldn't ever consider doing, but the PC9 profile would feel very similar to the M1 and the 9mm commonality would be very useful especially for you considering they are the same mags. Just giving ya something to think about. I have considered the shotty but in all honesty, its just way too much collateral damage if you miss, especially if your throwing slugs and you have immediate next door and upstairs/downstairs neighbors like me to worry about.

Sorry Im trying to help ya spend that tax return coming up soon :D

Heres a link for ya

And a pic :D

Theres other 9mm carbines, Kel Tec, Hi Point etc... but the Ruger would be probably most familar feeling because you already have the M1 and the fact you have the appropiate mags with the P series Handgun, it could actually prove very useful to you.

Now, because you were originally asking in this thread for Pictures of others SHTF setups and no one really listened, Ill throw up a pic of my tools for ya, it aint much but its what I got and I guarantee anybody kicking in my door might think twice once I grab one of them. Or so I hope.

Here ya go :D

Cheers, good luck with your improvements to your SHTF setup. Its looking good thus far, dont forget those Knoxx stocks, IMHO the best thing you can do to a shotty.
