I'm currently building up an AR. I picked up a complete Bushmaster Lower and August's goal is to find an appropriate upper. I know for sure that I want to get a stripped flattop upper.

I think that a side-charging upper would be preferable to the regular rear-charging + foward assist setup.

However, I really don't know that much about side-charing ARs. It would seem that they must come with a different, modified bolt + charging handle, but are any other parts required, and do other standard AR parts fit?

I'm a rightie, so it seems that weak-hand charging would be the way to go. Current offerings are somewhat confusing.

The above link has a left-handed side-charge, but it is a high-mounted rail, which I don't want, as would like to stick BUIS on it.

ASA offers a complete upper with an optional side-charging upper:

A stripped upper with optional side-charging would be nice, but I don't see that option.

That's all that I could find on weak-side charging.

Medesha offers a stripped flattop upper with strong-side charging handle and a brass deflector.

Only thing is that it appears pricey, but I've heard that Medesha only makes top-notch stuff.

Fulton Armory, www.fulton-armory.com has a strong side charger, but I didn't see a stripped flattop upper with the side charger. Also, it does not appear to have a brass deflector, a feature that I would prefer to retain.

Is there anyone who can shed some more light on this subject?
