Starting to learn about handguns. I think small game pistol hunting would be a blast. I also want an option for power (for mid-range larger game hunting or defense). Is there a centerfire caliber that crosses over? Both hunting handguns would need to be tapped for bases or have a rail.

rimfire I like auto or rimfire under $275:
1. S&W 22A over a Browning HUnter I think. MAybe not until I hold one or two.

2. Ruger single 6, not tapped but seems the only decent 22 mag around

3. Any other ideas?

Centerfire is up for grabs. No broken wrists. Don't want a heavy trigger and I'm open to action rec's. Wish there were decent auto options for a scoped handgun but for a good price (around $500 or less) and the inherant accuracy/range potential a revolver seems good. THNX. I've been reading so many specs it's all a blur. Figured real people could spell it out better.

.357mag could be used for both if loaded lightly with SWC bullets.

A Ruger Single Six and a Ruger Blackhawk in .357mag could cover all of your woods needs or you could step up to a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44mag if you want a little more power.

That's neat. I thought about that in the back of my mind. Isn't there kind of an existing tap? Well?... Yes there is. How clever.

Has anyone shot the S&W 22A or a Browning Buckmark? The winner of that round faces the Single six which has the 22WMR going for it. Triggers will make the deal I think. Short travel and kinda light.
