Greetings,
I was reassembling a Sig 220 (1st time) and installed the mag release slide catch before I installed the slide release end spring and now have the slide release catch up inside the frame with no way to depress it to get the mag release slide back out. Anyone know of a remedy to this problem without having to destroy the mag release?

You are losing me some with your nomenclature.
It reads like you are reinstalling your magazine catch. That consists of the magazine catch, the magazine catch spring, the magazine catch stop, and the magazine catch stop spring (the last two being the the little plunger and spring that keep the catch in the frame).

You said "...installed the mag release slide catch before I installed the slide release end spring" so I'm guessing you installed the magazine catch without the magazine catch spring in place and now can't get the catch far enough out of the frame to release it. Try putting your finger up inside the magazine well to push/hold the magazine catch in place so that you can release the the magazine catch stop. If you can't get enough pressure that way, remove the support plate from the opposite side of the frame and push the magazine catch out enough to release the the stop. You can see how to remove the support plate here: http://www.ar15.com/lite/topic.html?b=5&f=14&t=19231

The catch stop is what I'm having trouble with. I had (have) the catch spring and retaining plate removed and installed the mag catch with the catch stop and catch stop spring but had the high side of the stop towards the outside of the frame. I depressed it with a small screwdriver to get it in but now it won't allow the catch to slide out enough to get access to the catch stop so it can be depressed.

That's a big problem. As far as I know, you are right about the catch having to be destroyed to remove it. Don't try to knock it out as you can damage the frame.Your best bet would be to send it back to SIG or maybe Bruce Gray can fix it: http://www.grayguns.com/

One would think that if it's that easy to install it incorrectly that there would have been some warning or notation in the armorer's manual.

I was able to get it out by taking a .003" feeler gauge that I cut in half and use it as a type of shoe horn.
:) That's a great save! If you get the time, it would probably be appreciated if you could post that info on the Sig Forum. I know I appreciate you posting it here.

Greg
