Sig 239 or Glock 26? Cant decide.

I cant make up my mind. This will be my first carry gun. The glock 26 is so small and carries a lot of ammo, but I think I'd feel nervous carrying one in the chamber. (See other thread) The Sig P239 I'd carry one in the chamber(because of the long DA first pull), but is a considerably larger, and holds less ammo. There is my dilema. Would getting a NY trigger on the Glock make it a little more "forgiving" if my finger accidently bumped it in a defense situation? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I personally would not like a heavier trigger in a Glock pistol for the same reason I don't like DAO pistols in general. Just harder to shoot. If it came between the NY trigger and the DA/SA SIG I'd choose the SIG.

Get what you're comfortable with. They're both excellent guns. I feel the G26 (w/o finger grooves) is a much better gun for CCW but you might feel more comfortable with the first heavy DA trigger of the SIG.

But you can't go wrong with either.

Glock doesn't have a "hair" trigger!

I have a Glock 26 and and Glock 19. The triggers pulls are identical. You needn't worry about "bumping" the trigger. There is a little plastic "thingy" in the middle of the trigger that must be compressed in order for the trigger to be pressed to the rear. Plus, it takes some effort to pull that trigger, a lot more than on a tuned SA pistol.

My only complaint about the Glock 26 is that the magazines are so short that doing emergency reloads, it is easy to miss the mag well or get the fleshy part of your palm pinched. I prefer the G19 for the ease of mag changes. However, no question, the G26 sure does conceal better! When I have worn the G26 for a while, and I put on the G19, it feels like a cannon!

You might consider getting a Saf-T-Blok for the G26 if you want to put the AD problem to rest. I don't carry mine (SoCal) but that would be my solution if I were.

If you carry your Glock in a satisfactory holster, there is nothing to worry about.

Try a kydex or plastic holster, they are great.

Both my Glock 27 and 19 have 3.5# Connectors, and I am very comfortable carrying either or both. I carry with Sidearmor IWB, and have no fears of the trigger ever being touched.

But that's me.

If you are not going to carry with a round in the chamber, don't waste time buying/carrying that gun.....

Unless, you can overcome your fears of the Glock, then buy the Sig.

They are both nice ,But I would pick what you are most comfortable with. I like the 239 in 40 or 357Sig.

I'd get a two tone, and get some Hogue grips for it. I hate Hogue grips on any other gun but the 239. Carry it in an Alessi Talon, or a Comp-Tac Gurkha. Nice set up.

I love to shoot the Glock, but I bought SIG as my first-ever handgun. My reason, like others mentioned, was that the SIG didn't make me "nervous" for carry like the Glock did. Not only does the SIG have a longer, heavier trigger pull, but it has an exposed hammer that you can put your thumb on when holstering so you'll feel if the trigger catches on something. I doubt that the SIG is really "safer" but I'm more comfortable with it, and I think that's important with your first carry gun. (When I first got the 239, I carried it around the house for a few weeks unloaded, until I was reassured that it wouldn't fire all by itself. )

Ideally, if you have the cash, buy both.

The SIG may be a tad bit bigger but it sure as heck is thinner which makes it easier to conceal IMO.

Both are great guns. I don't care for the Glock trigger and I am more comfortable with traditional double action / decocker guns.

Oh yeah and I am a bit of a SIG nut. SIG single stacks rock. Accurate, reliable, nice looking, easy to conceal, absolutely wonderful firearms.

Like I said the Glock is great too. I think the SIG is a better gun for a new shooter because it is more forgiving in it's manual of arms and you don't have to pull the trigger to disassemble. These are not a huge deal but can be for a new shooter.

I think I'm going to look into the P239 a little more. I have a Glock 17 thats a ball to shoot, but for some reason I am a little nervous to carry it. Is the Sig fairly easy to conceal in the summer with shorts and a baggy T-shirt? ( I'm 6 foot, 190 pounds.) Should I carry IWB?

The SIG is extremely easy to conceal. It is so thin that a tee shirt is all you need to cover it up.

Sig or Glock ?

I purchased my first handgun nov 02.I too had narrowed it down to the glock or Sig P-239. I purchased the Sig and have no regrets. It is 1.20 inches wide and the weight in 9mm is only 25.2 ounces. The main thing I was considering other than reliability of course was how well it conceals. I purchased a Wild Bills "Undercover" IWB holster and belt as well as mag carrier..One thing you really want to do is be sure you have a very adequate belt and holster or you will regret it..I know Glocks are excellent guns but have you ever heard anyone say a Sig wasn't reliable? I am also very new at this but like I said I researched thoroughly before making my decision. Good Luck...

The Glock doesn't allow much room for stupidity and we all get stupid from time to time. For example in order to field strip the Glock you must pull the trigger. Many a careless person has shot themselves because they didn't unload the gun properly. The same with the trigger. It is relatively light and many a person has shot the gun while reholstering because they don't keep their finger clear enough.

Now I am not saying that having the SIG excuses anyone from the responsibility of safe firearms handling but for a relatively new shooter it allows a little more margin for error. For example the trigger pull is heavier and more deliberate. The way the gun breaks down actually requires you to rack the slide and lock it back ensuring an empty firearm.

I am not saying you cannot handle a Glock and I am not trying to patronize anyone I am just giving my opinion on why I think SIGs are a bit better of a gun for a new shooter. Besides they have much more snob appeal.

Glocks are great guns that are very safe when you as the user respect them and know how they function.

Once again please do not think I am trying to belittle your skill. I just got the impression that you would be more comfortable with the SIG. I know I am.

The SIG dissapears IWB and is thin enough to not even know it is there.

So far I have used a Kramer IWB and a cheap Uncle Mikes to try it out and both seem to work well enough. Everybody raves about the Millt Sparks Versa Max and Watch Six though.

I like the two tone gun and it is a stronger finish. It is actually a nickle plating I believe. My 239 is a two tone and I love it. Nitron black would be just fine though. Just make sure you wipe it down after wearing it. I like CLP and have never seen an once of rust.

SiG P239 in 9mm. Load out with Ranger T in 127gr or 147 grain, failing that use Golden Sabre bonded in 124gr +P.

It may just be the finest CCW handgun there is.

Having tried 3 Glocks, I found that 2 of them jammed consistently on me and one of those was a Glock 26. The P239 is the MOST reliable handgun of ANY type I have ever fired with the possible exception of a Makarov.

Good luck on your purchase. You do know that you will have a Glock too at some point right? Better to be at peace with that thought early on.

My lovely wife keeps a G26 under the bed. It has the minus connector and reduced power trigger spring. I have no fear of an AD, because she knows to keep her pretty finger off the trigger!! If she can do it, so can you!!
Now, go do the right thing and get that Glock!!!

Yup, I own a Glock 19, it's been the most dependable pistol I've owned, right next to my Ruger P-85, (which is damned reliable of it's own right, )

Personally, I'd go with Glock...... Despite their up (apparently) politics.....

Thanks for all the info. I do own a Glock allready. A model 17. I absolutley love it. It was my first handgun. My wife bought it for me for Christmas a year ago. (Pretty cool wife, huh?) Since I also like Sigs a lot, I guess I'm going to have to find a range that rents both, and fire them side by side. To be honest with you, I should have titled this thread, which one do I buy first, because I'll probably have both of them before the years over.
Anyways, thanks for the input, I guess I cant go wrong with either one, they are both great guns.
