Oh Hi Oh
Comparing the specs for the Sig 220 and Sig 244, the 2 look pretty close to one another. Anyone have both care to offer comments on difference in feel, given the slight size differences? I realize the 220 can hold more rounds.

Thanks

well I don't have the two yet.. but i can make some comments based on what I've seen.

Overall the dimensions are extremely similar. The barrel length and the slide length are about the same length. However, if you consider either as a ccw then you realize that this length really isn't what tends to make carrying difficult.

The "height" of the pistol or the grip length is what tends to print while carrying. And this is where the 245 is a bit shorter than the 220. Now since I don't have the 245 yet I can't actually comment on the difference, but all in due time.

As to feel the 245 feels like a slightly shorter 220, which is what I would hope for. Some people have complained about the 245 being so short that they can't get comfortable with it, but that tends to be subjective to to the user. You're best off trying to handle one and get some rounds through it.

I myself felt a little aweward the first time shooting a 245 but it was so accurate and similar to my 220 that I began my search for one almost immediately after putting some rounds through it.

As for more rounds. The 245 does indeed carry only 6+1 versus the 220 8+1, but 220 mags do fit the 245. So with a reload you are in the same ballpark as a fully loaded 220. Initially you are trading off 2 rounds, but you aren't further handicapped after the initial reload.

I'm sure someone will chime in with both that can further the discussion, for now at least I'm still waiting on my 245....

My brother has the 245 and I've shot it a few times. It's a great gun and would work very well as a CCW...but it is just not for me. The grip is way too short and I feel like I'm going to drop it half the time. Accuracy is on par with any other Sig...extremely good. So is reliability and ease of use.

Personally, I would go with the fullsize 220 and dress around it. YMMV!

I've owned both, but after much shooting, I sold the 245 and kept the 220, which is my standard carry piece in .45 ACP. The 245 is perfectly reliable and controllable, but I found that I could carry the 220 with not very much more effort at concealment, and I shot the full-size gun better. With a good IWB holster (I use the Milt Sparks VM2), the full-size gun is quite easy to conceal.

I went with the 245 and have never looked back. Some 220s have 7-rounders so the 6+1 245 only gives up one in those cases. You save some weight and overall size, make CCW more comfortable, and still get the other 220 advantages...the Sig advantages.

As to the grip, my hands are fairly large and I have no problems with the 245. It rides in an Alessi rig and that, too, works as advertised. Great gun, the 245. Mine is in Ilaflon, too. I do not believe there are any/many 220s floating around in Ilaflon. It appears to be the most durable of the Sig coatings and it looks great!

Good luck!

I've got both, although my 220 is the ST. I really like my P245 for CCW. The grip is very short, but it works well for me. I can just get all three fingers around it, but if my fingers were any bigger my pinkly would be hanging off.

I never considered one until I picked one up. It fit me great, but I can see how it wouldn't fit others. I think if they had made it just a tad longer more people would be buying them. I like it just the way it is though. As mentioned above, for CCW the length of the barrel isn't really an issue, it's the height of the grip that makes guns hard to conceal. In this regard the 245 is fantastic. It just seems to dissapear with IWB carry. The slide is also pretty slim too, compared to a P229.
