For what purpose?

Every SIG pistol being produced today is a nice gun on its own merits.

What size are you looking at?

What capacity do you need?

Price range?

if you could give us the application and or the niche that you would want the gun to fill that would help us answer a little better. I am personally a fan of the p226. and if i could have any sig that i wanted i would go with thw 226 tactical operations (of course if i wasn't gonna be using it for ccw).

229

SIG 229, it was originally designed around the 40 caliber. You can also by a factory 357 SIG barrel for the 229 platform and will interchange in the 40 caliber gun and use the same mags giving you two platforms in one.. I own one and love it..

another vote for the 229...it was the first Sig designed for the .40 round. it is an evolution of the 228, but it was the first Sig to use the milled stainless slide for added mass to contain the additional recoil of the larger round
