SIG 550 under development for US market

Like I said in the thread about the potential of new civilian AUG's...I'll kiss every last one of you if this is true.

I hate to be a prick, but do you remember the guys name you spoke with and possible his email or office phone number? Shooters have been burned before by companies with big words and little outcome and I for one would like to confirm this with someone at SIG.

I think the biggest problem facing Sig from building 550's is that Swiss Arms won't let them.

DING DING DING!!!

We have a winner. Swiss Arms is the roadblock, not Sig/Sauer, not the ATF, not 922 regs. Swiss Arms wants no part in seeing their military arm sold by Sauer, built and assembled domestically (as it would have to be), and out of their control.

If the 55x series hits the US shores, in any official capacity, I will be VERY surprised. I don't think SigUSA has the clout to make it happen, frankly.

Just don't tell cslinger. He'll get a nosebleed and pass out just at the thought.

I was reading something about a 550 and then everything went black and I lost six hours of my life and woke up with a bloody nose. So what was everybody saying about a 55X for the US market? :D

I will believe it when I see it. I had also heard that Swiss Arms is one of the biggest road blocks not to mention that there is no way in hell they will be able to sell a 55X for $1000 and exactly what kind of market are they going to have, I mean besides those of us who have religious experiences at the thought.

Hard to market a .223 rifle to compete with a solid RockMasterLite rifle as far as magazine availability, configurations, cost, etc.

Well I can dream and if it happens my charge card will be out faster than DiFi can yell baby killing assault rifle.

Alright, talked to some people, including my buddy who was with me at the store to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. The Sig rep did say they were going ahead with the 550 for the civilian market. I'm a dumbass and didn't get his card when I was there, so I only know his first name is Brad. I'll call the store tomorrow and get his full name.

I also talked to a friend who works for a military contract small arms equipment manufacturer (not going to give his name without permission) who personally knows the Sig rep and says he's on the level. My friend also states that he has known about the US civilian 550 plans for over a year now and that the sticking point has indeed been the Swiss Army's sign off. In his words:

> Have you guys heard anything about the 550 out of
> Sig?

Yes. I've known about the civvy SIG rifles
for a year or so now, the main problem was getting the
Swiss to sign off on it, not the U.S. angle. One of
the SIG guys went to Paris last year to hammer out the
whole deal and got them to agree to the U.S. made one.
Of course, it wouldn't be the first ball fumbled if
it didn't work out, but they seem to be all on the
same page.

I'm not going to expect any of you to believe a new poster quoting an unamed source corroborating a Sig rep named "Brad", but I'll be real frank with ya....I could care less if you do :) I know the person who corroborated the story is legitimate, they work with Sig and would be in a position to know.

Take what I've said however you will. There has certainly been a lot of vaporware in this industry and I don't blame you for the scepticism. But I'll be saving my pennies for these and crossing my fingers that all the legal snags have been worked out, because I've now heard from two good sources that Sigarms is going ahead with a US made, civilian model 550.

EDIT: The sales rep for my region is Brad Bradanini. Territory: AK, Northern CA, HI, ID, MT, Northern NV, OR, WA, WY. Email: [email protected] Phone: 925-371-4556 Fax: 925-294-9078.

A list of all LE sales reps can be found at http://www.sigarms.com/le-military/SIGARMS_LE_Sales_Reps.pdf

$1000 ???

In Switzerland, the civilian version costs approx. $2450
At $1000 it will probably be made in Brazil.

Anyway, the Swiss-built SIG-550 shoots bewtween 2.36 and 3.54 inch groups at 300 yds with its regular sights. You should like it.

So now that ythere is an email, phone number, fax number, and website listed has anyone touched base with this brad fella to comfirm our wildest dreams? I'd like to know if I should start squirreling away money in a SIG fund yet or not. :)

Hee. I wondered if you would jump on that. If you buy one I'll have to test-fire it for you. No way could I justify buying one tho.

I shall pray for your charge card.

What? When? Where? How?

Switzerland has an army? Why? They would never use it. They are neutral or so they claim.

A SIG 550 would be sweet. As far as poodleshooters go, it has got to be tops.

What would get ME all hot in bothered would be one of THESE:

Stgw.57 / SIG AMT / SIG 510-4
7.5Swiss or 7.62NATO, I wouldn't care.

Oh, and HERE's an ad to bring tears to your eyes:

I'd pay $299 for one.

Don't get me wrong, I am quite happy to inherit my garndpa's JC Higgins 12ga bolt shotgun. It's a shame he didn't have more exotic tastes in his weaponry.

Let's all let Mr. Brad know that the American shooting community would collectively give their first born for these rifles.

Also, between Canadians being able to get Sig 550's for under $7000 and M14's for $300, I am beginning to think more and more about moving there. Well, maybe not, but what the hell, there is a provision in our constitution about weapons and yet they get all the good deals..

Ach!

Um, if the F2000 from FN is going to be $1600, there is no way Sig (read: over-priced guns already) is going to let the 550 series go for $1000. I'd believe closer to $2000. Shame really as it puts them out of reach for many shooters.

I'll stick to my SLR-105R and enjoy cheap shooting that is accurate enough.

If they allow a civilian version to be sold in Canada, why would the Swiss Army be against selling one in America? They hate us or something?

It's not about where they're sold, it's where they are made. The ones in Canada are imported (from Switzerland, IIRC.) To be sold in America, thanks to our ridiculous laws, they must be made in America. I guess they'll be less dangerous if they're made here?

Oh, and they probably hate us, too. But they'll have to get in line.
