I'm wondering if anyone who owns a Sig 938 (standard barrel) has swapped in a threaded barrel and if you have, did the extra 1/2 inch barrel length produce better accuracy? This is a practical question for those who have done it, not a theoretical question.

Okay, 33 views and no replies, let's try this; does anyone have a 938 with a standard barrel and a 938 with a threaded barrel like the Emperor Scorpion? If you do, have you noticed any difference in accuracy between the two pistols?

I can’t imagine that 1/2 inch more length would make a noticeable difference in accuracy in a p938 with a 3” barrel. (My EDC is a p938)

My 938 is stock but very accurate, particularly at short range where it is likely to be needed, i.e. 10 yards or closer. What kind of accuracy are you getting currently? How much improvement are you looking for?

I'm getting fist sized groups at 5 yards slow fire, yeah I moved target in to determine if it was my aim or my eyes I usually shot at 7 yards with my self defense pistols. I put everything inside a 2" circle at 7 yards with my .40 caliber XDm Compact (3.8" barrel). On my best day I can put 5 out of 5 rounds inside a 1" dot at 7 yards using my Sig P239 (3.6" barrel) slow firing in DA mode. I'd like to get at least equal groups from my 938 as the XDm Compact.

That is certainly acceptable for SD use, but I would think tighter groups should be happening also at that distance.

If you are capable of shooting better groups with other guns, I would suggest that the barrel length is not the issue, and you may have some other problem going on. Maybe the grip doesn't fit you quite right, or there's a mechanical issue.

Do you know of anyone else with a 938, or does your local range have any to rent where you could swap barrels and see if it makes any difference? Are you using the flush magazines or extended? Do you see a difference? I've found on certain guns I tend to pull my shots if I use a pinky extension verses the flush magazines. I tend to shoot small guns better that way.

Sorry though, I know my response isn't answering your stated question.

I'm trying to figure out why someone would want a threaded barrel on a CC gun anyway.

They only way a 1/2" longer barrel is going to improve accuracy is if it also adds 1/2" to the sight radius. The P938 is a pretty accurate gun on it's own right. Not sure if you aren't used to the trigger or if there might be something wrong with the barrel. I'd suggest more practice, maybe even some shots from a rest and if you still aren't satisfied contacting SIG.

Attached is the very first 6 shot group I put through my P938, done at 7 yards. It's only gotten better from there as I've gotten more use to the gun.

The small grips take some getting used too. Particularly if you have larger hands.
I also found I need to practice more often with the p938.
The trigger will lighten up with break in (around300+) and that will help with your accuracy as well.
Give it some time.

Some folks prefer the larger rubber wrap around grips hogue makes.

The accuracy parameters I described are with a rental gun with the Hogue rubber grips. I have the Extreme model with the G10 grips and my accuracy is much worse with the G10 grips so I've already checked that box. The barrel change was a last ditch option but an expensive one. This gun is probably on it's way out the door, which is sad because there isn't a similar sized option that isn't striker fired and I don't like striker fired for carry.

Yeah, that's got to be frustrating for you! That being said, for the type of situation the gun is designed for, the accuracy you are seeing isn't horrible. I used to worry if I couldn't get groups close to what bassjam posted (very nice, btw!) but realized that as long as I can put hits on the target at the range and pace of fire that is likely to occur if I need to use it, I'm happy!

I don't think another 1/2" of barrel is going to make a big difference unless the barrel you have is just poor, which is possible but unlikely. Small short barreled guns can be hard to shoot small groups with, especially if it does not fit you well.

3.1" barreled P-365. 7 yards, chrono at 5 yards. The only bad shot is all me. (I have shot poor groups with it as well, trust me.)
