Sig Choices

Makes you wonder if gun shop owners are "irresponsible" when theives break into their place of business and steal their inventoty

If they left it in the front window where someone could easily get it in a very quick smash and grab I would say yes.

So what is a law abiding citizen supposed to do who wants to protect himself while driving in his vehicle?

Well anchored car safe maybe? They can be defeated but, it takes much more effort, and they go a long ways towards preventing smash and grabs. I have one in my convertible

My choices were to travel unarmed or armed. I chose the latter.
Irresponsible action?

Do we measure that by the results? How long did you leave the car unattended? How long was the trip? What was the realistic threat of traveling without a gun? Where did you park your car and what options were available. What security measures did you take with respect to your car? What is prevalence of car break ins where you went. Personally I can tell you that I have had my car broken into, MANY more times than I have needed a gun for self defense. I think there is still incomplete information but your argument thus far I find wanting. Sometimes protecting against the more realistic threats is better.

There are also those who say/deman you should not be able to ever have a firearm in your dwelling except locked in a firearm safe for the same reason where the only reason to take it from the safe would be to take it hunting or to the gun range

A car and a house are themselves distinguishable. Also this statement blurs the line between what is best practice when one is home versus away. Personally if I am away I think a gun safe is a much much more secure place for guns. If I am home the dynamic is very different. The same is true of a gun in the car. If I'm in it there is very different than if I plan to leave it unattended for a long time. I think the same for other valuables as well.

Those who would not let you have a gun out of a safe in your home when you are there and the gun is under your immediate control take a position that is radically different than saying leaving a gun otherwise unsecured in your car for an extended period is best avoided.

I'm sure I'm totally wrong. Of course I've never had a gun stolen (despite multiple car break ins and even a residential burglary).

NO THANKS. I would want quick access to my firearm when returning to my car as that is often the most vulnerable time for robery or a car jacking and I don't want to have to be messing with opening a safe for access to it. One may think that is easy to do but seconds can count and under high stress opening a safe would be the last thing I want to do. Car thieves could very well just rip/cut out the safe and open it later at their leisure time anyhow.

Where are you going to put it that is even remotely secure that takes less time to get to it? I could access mine as quickly as say my glove box or center console.

Any security measure can be defeated is someone is determined. However, most car burglaries cases I've were simple smash and grabs, not people looking to put a lot of effort or time into task.

Yeah right - good for you. I refuse to take that chance. If it makes you feel better for your circumstances than by all means do it.

When a woman has her purse stolen out of a unattended car, she gets what she deserves.
When someone has their gun stolen out of a unattended car, they get the same....

I feel the need to be armed while in my car more so then at most any other time.
But when I exit the car...the gun goes with me!

No seriously where are you putting it that it is so much faster to access? I'm genuinely curious.

Friend bought an SP2022 in 9mm and I like it for what it is honestly, It shoots fine especially for the price but the magazines are pricey and his came with only one. Just buy the gun and enjoy, otherwise if a $600 CPO P220 or P226 is within budget, that works too! ;)

A few months ago I bought a P220 police trade in for $450 with 3 mags. Gun had some holster wear but nothing major. The inside looked great & it might be the best shooting auto I ever picked up. I love this pistol & would buy another without hesitation.

Proof as in some article I can link you can read? No. Seen the results my self, yep. Someone breaking in your house and stealing is a whole different ballgame than a smash and grab out of your car. If you have you had the gun secured in the car and they defeated the car safe or broke it out, well you did what you could. If you had it stashed under the seat, in console or glove box, then that was irresponsible. When your the one seeing guys gurgling up blood riddled with bullet holes your perception may change.

Carried a P-220 for nine years on duty, off duty. A bit full size for concealed carry, in which case (esp. in summer with light clothing) I step down to my 9mm Sig P-228.

Sig Sauer

I have a poly Sig 2340. It is a state police trade-in. I really, really, like this pistol. Fantastic trigger.

Having said this, I would like to have a more traditional Sig (226). It is hard to budget for one. Just to run this by you guys, ok?

Sarco has some (I'm told Isreali trade-ins) P226s for sale. Good condition $325. Now we all know what a "good" condition gun from Sarco will look like. That really does not bother me too much. It is function I am concerned about. Here is where I'm going with this:

Sig service plan fron SigArms in Exeter. $144.95. They will fully diassemble the pistol. Detail clean. Inspect the critical componets. Replace recoil springs, slide catch lever, trigger bar, and decocking lever. Completely reassemble and lubricate to factory specs. Install Sig-Light factory night sights.

I do not know what shipping would run, but it seems to me that this would be a way to have a very nice, factory inspected and worked on, Sig 226 for a pretty decent price. All things considered.

Opinions...
