Hey all, what in your opinion would be better the 220 Super Match or the 1911 Target, Just curious. I have a G17 I could start matches with. But am already thinking of a better arm.:)

I can't think of anything a G17 is giving up to either of those two guns in IDPA, and it's a lot easier and cheaper to trick out, and stay within the rules. I don't think a target gun gives you any advantage in IDPA, you've got an 8" bullseye. And I like Sigs, but I have to think of their 1911 like going to the Ford dealer to buy a Corvette.

Sig-Sauer P220 Super Match is not allowed in IDPA. It is 8.92" overall, and will not fit The Box which is 8.75".

A Match SAO would be about as far as you could go in that lineup.
I have shot a P226 in SSP but am in the minority (two of us in the local club.)

Start out with your Glock, it will do everything you need it to do. Then use getting into CDP as an excuse to buy a new gun once you are sure you like IDPA.

Sig QC has really gone down hill in the last few years......:(

You already have a very reliable and accurate handgun that you can use to start competing with.

Stick with your Glock. Remember its the Indian shooting the arrow not the other way around.

I agree, if you go to your local club, I'm sure there are quite a few shooters using Glocks. They're very capable for gaming. Low bore axis, low recoil, short slack, short reset, and quicker to shoot.

Good luck.

I agree with the posted replies. I had a SigPro 2009 (9mm) that was a wonderful gun, but it has a higher bore axis and longer trigger pull in DA compared to the Glock 26 that I exchanged for it. The Glock is just as accurate and has a lower perceived recoil (for me), allowing faster follow up shots. Enjoy your Glock 17.

I know this is an old thread, but I just saw the P220 Super Match and fell in love with it. I'm heart broken to read this though.

I do have to ask though, the gun has 1/2" of play height wise in the "IDPA Box", is that enough play to clear the beaver tail on a bit of a diagonal? It only needs .17" LOL!

Remember that it has to fit in the box with a mag in it. And if you can hammer it in the box, and close the lid flush, it "fits" And no, you can't disassemble it or I'd be shooting my Mark 23 in CDP...LOL.

I'd go with the G17. You're state of the art in SSP with that.
