I have an interst in the Mosquito and the MP22. Looks to me like one difference is in DA/SA vs the SA only of the M&P. I'm wondering if the M&P has a decent trigger, their description says the M&P frame is 'metal'.

I'm guessing both are Umarex products, some MIM parts, Zamac, etc. If they both have similar construction and both have a decent trigger, I'd lean towards the one that could have better, aftermarket sights installed or even a red dot. It seems that there is not much sight choice for the Sig, and there is for the M&P.

anyone tried both of these and can voice a preference? thanks!

Had the sig mosquit and got rid of it. Kept jamming. I tried all kinds of ammo and springs but gave up trying to fix it and traded it in years ago. Have not shoot the M&P yet but have read lots of wonderful reviews and LGS has sold over 12 in last year and not one issue with them.
YMMV

I has the P22 Walther and did not like the rail nor the safety.

Suppose I should consider the SR22 but I like the larger size of M&P-22 and Mosquito

I like the trigger for the MP-22. I own one. The only problem I have with it is that I'm not a good shooter. I rely too much on the weight of the gun to steady my aim. So I pull shots with it because it's so light.

For some reason I don't understand, the SR22 feels bigger than it looks. On paper, it's pretty much identical in size to the P22, but it feels and handles much better.

I just purchased the M&P last week after comparing it to the Mosquito. The M&P felt larger in my hand, and the grip seems a little wider (front to rear) than the Sig. The deciding factor was the recommendation of the sales rep when he mentioned that the Sig tends to be a little more problematic, and fussy with ammo. On my first trip to the range with the M&P, I went through 100 rds of CCI Mini Mags without a single issue. The safety feels stiff, but it may possibly loosen up with use. I plan to swap out the sights eventually, replacing them with a 3 dot set-up since that's what I have on all my other handguns.

Good luck with your decision.

Have owned a MP-22 for about a year, and have around 2500 rounds thru it. Shoots mini mags flawlessly , bulk ammo like Federal and Winchester its a little finicky. It cycles best with high velocity ammo.

I have a new Mosquito. Mine IS NOT ammo fussy. In fact, I have over 1,000 rounds thru it now, and have had no failure of any kind. This is with all the common bulk ammo, and some of the good CCI stuff. I didnt like the feel of the M&P 22 and bought the Mosquito instead. Its VERY accurate, and just feels like an old friend. I really like the pistol, as I am partial to external hammer style pistols. My only problem with it, is its hard to see...

My mosquito has also worked flawlessly with anything I put in it. I enjoy shooting it and will again if I can ever find ammo.

Still, the web reports out there report the pistols being picky...

Not many neg review on the sr22 though... Sometimes when I need the truth.. I just look for the puddin' ya know?

and you have one of those too! :)

I ended up buying a SR22 after doing some research and reading about the problems with the P22 and the Mosquito. The MP22 was out of my price range as I only had $350 and to be honest, I like the looks of it and the size. I really like it so far.

I haven't shot the Mosquito but I shot my son's M&P 22. I was amazed at how accurate it was for me. Even more so than my neos and that is pretty accurate. Trigger broke clean &my usual bad habits were overcome. It fit my hand really well.

does the Mosquito have a 'normal' sized rail? SR22, same question?

my Walther P22 had an undersized, proprietary rail mount so it could not accept a normal rail mounted light.

I thought about a Mosquito or P22 and while some shooters have no problems, the number of claims about being ammo sensitive are enough to steer me away from it. Where there's smoke, there's fire is the way I look at it. I went with a Ruger SR22 for my son to grow into and an M&P22 for myself. In both of these cases, they have been 100% reliable and quite accurate for what they are, the M&P in particular! Will everybody get a crappy Mosquito or P22 and will everybody get a reliable and accurate M&P or SR22? Probably not. However, I based my choices on the number of others reviews on these pistols and went with the guns that had a lot more pro reviews versus the number of con reviews. I'm happy with the choices I made. :)

I have the Mosquito, yes it is picky about ammo, I feed it CCI AR Tactical and do not have any problems. Mini Mags work as well. I do not like the fact that it is picky, but it shoots great. Every time I think about trading it because of ammo issues, I shoot it and remember why I keep it. No experience with the MP22.

my P22 was very accurate and reliable, I just did not like the operation of the safety, it would leave you thinking you had a misfire and actually, the it was just that the safety was on. the trigger and hammer look and feel the same whether it is on safe or fire.

I have a S&W M&P 22 which had not have any issues firing any 22LR I found, including some stuff a friend found ont he ground somewhere. If anyone is in my area and wants to try it, lemme know and we can meet in the range. Just bring your own ammo ;)
