I rented a Sig MPX today, after the first rental 3-4 weeks ago didn't pan out. The rental gun, a gen I, apparently doesn't like to eject or run reliably, so be it. I did find it to be very accurate. Anyone know about these pistols?

I was going to buy one but I decided against it after reading some poor reviews about reliability and design aspects.

I like that controls on the MPX are similar to that of an AR but I don't like the price of the MPX, the fact that mags are really expensive and that it has an AR style charging handle.

I decided to go with the CZ Scorpion for around the half the price of the MPX and I'm really glad I did. I have well over 1,000 rounds through the Scorpion now and not a single malfunction. You can buy a new Scorpion for under $1k, the mags are cheap, it's a proven design that is and has been used by LE and military around the world for a number of years now and finally it's made by CZ and that alone makes it better than Sig....sorry couldn't resist:D

Be advised, isn't SIG in the process of upgrading to new receiver/magazine designs that won't be fully backwards compatible (or is it forwards compatible?) meaning either the new guys or the first-round buyers may be short on mags...permanently

Sig MPX Awesome

I have had my Sig MPX for a little over a month now and have put 500+ rounds through it at the range and in the field. I have had zero failures or malfunctions of any kind. I have fed it everything from my Dillon RL550B reloads to cheap Walmart white box ammo. I have shot everything from 115 supersonic to 147 subsonic bullets. It eats everything. Absolutely no issues.

The gun is very accurate and light shooting, low recoil. I replaced the factory trigger (as I have done with all my AR’s) with the excellent Geissele SSA-E trigger. This will really shrink your groups and get more rounds on target. The factory trigger has been my only complaint.

I just received 6 more Lancer 30 round magazines directly from Sig. They cost around $40 each, about twice that of an AR Mag. I also have submitted a Form-1 to make it an SBR. Collapsible stock is on back order, as well as armor plate carrying sling bag. My AAC Ti-Rant suppressor sits down at the local gun shop awaiting Federal stamp.

Once I get this all together, the MPX will be my primary go-to home defense weapon. Would not be a bad choice for a “bug out” weapon platform either. Throw the bag over your shoulder with 210 rounds of suppressed 147 grain 9mm HP’s and your personal side arm (which just happens to shoot the same ammo) and go.

If you are interested in an MPX, there are dozens of video reviews online. All have been glowing except one. That guy had one of the early guns where the trigger pins walked out. Easy fix.

There is always going to be the “sour grapes” crowd. Don’t let them dissuade you. This is an excellent firearm and tons of fun! However, if you are looking for a cheap budget firearm, this ain’t it.

I took these “glamour shots” the day I bought mine. Since then I have traded the EOTech for an Aimpoint T-2 and added a combat light. Cant wait to get the stock and suppressor in my hands!

I just wonder how long it had been since your rental gun had been broken down and cleaned? It is easy to run hundreds of rounds through a gun like this in a matter of minutes.

Being a gas piston operated, rotating closed bolt AR type action like many others, it needs a good break down and cleaning from time to time. Breaking one down shows some top notch machining, engineering, and build quality. Even the gas piston comes apart for cleaning.

There are videos on that out there too.

Nope, you are looking at the finished product. After talking to Sig directly, I got this: “We under estimated the demand for this gun and it is taking us a while to catch up”.

I just got in 6 Lancer 30 round mags. Backordered sling bag shipped today. Collapsible stock is still on backorder and is expected to ship by the end of the month (December). Check the Sig website for customizable options, parts, and accessories available for this gun. Pretty cool.

I may add an extended hand guard to cover my suppressor. And would also like to have 40 S&W barrel when they become available.

@ Woolecox

Once I get this all together, the MPX will be my primary go-to home defense weapon.

I've been entertaining the idea of of a PDW or semi-auto machine pistol for HD for some time, and have been particularly fascinated by the idea of one in 10mm. But then, the more I think about it the less I see an advantage over a rifle caliber and then I get back to thinking of that hypothetical 10mm as a toy more than a working gun.

Can you say more about what you lead you to go with the MPX for the HD role, vs something like an AR?

I actually never made that conscience decision. I was at the gun range shooting one day and they had the MPX in a glass case at the counter. After handling it and studying it for a while, I bought it and took it out to the range. I was immediately giddy over the thing.

I have owned some form of AR rifle since 1982. A 16” carbine will give you more of an offensive capability over a pistol cal sub machine gun (semi auto of course).

I also have a Colt LE6920, Laure OBR 20”, and a Noveske Gen II 300 BLK with 10.5 and 16” uppers. Two suppressors, AAC 7.62, and Surefire SOCOM 5.56. I simply would not be without a good carbine rifle!

Why I like the MPX for home/personal defense:

- Light, short, fast handling, almost zero recoil for quick follow up shots. My wife handles it better than a carbine. She's got my back!

- Plenty of stopping power for anything in my home, shop, or on my 3 acres of ground and I can carry lots of ammo on my person.

- Uses the same ammo as my primary carry weapon, a Kimber Aegis.

- I can easily crank out 450 rounds/hour of match grade 9mm ammo on my Dillon RL550B. I pick up more 9mm brass at the range than I can use. Bullets are cheap and available in bulk for excellent practice ammo.

- 9mm’s are very quiet with the suppressor. And it is just a ton of fun to shoot!

But if you are back to that dead horse scenario of “my first HD weapon” or “if I could only have one”, it would definitely be a 16” carbine in 5.56. Depending on how much cash I had to spend, it would be from Larue, Noveske, or Colt in that order. I have shot two of my buddies’ Daniel Defense carbines and they are fine weapons as well.

I know there are lot of fine quality rifles out there. These are just the one’s I have owned and had experience with over the years.

Love my MPX. A least 1000 rounds through it so far with zero problems. Familiarity with AR platform helps but the charging handle is cheaply un-SIG-like. Mags are a ripoff but that should change with time.

Much like the HK USC, this is an expensive PDW/home defense weapon no doubt. The CZ is much cheaper and just as good; I'm just partial to SIGs.

The more I read about the MPX, the more I want a CZ Scorpion EVO 3.

I bought the Evo Scorpian two weeks ago to add to my MPX. The Scorpian trigger and pistol grip and safety make shooting a little uncomfortable, but I have an after market trigger on order. The mag change is easier on the Evo, and mags are cheaper and easier to get. I've ordered a stock adapter and buffer tube for cheek weld, and will be able to judge better the accuracy when I get them installed sometime this week.
Right now I give the edge to the MPX, but will see if it changes when I shoot the Evo with buffer tube and a RDS. Both are neat and good HD guns and fit easily into back packs.

I'm all about having options, but in the price range I see the MPX I think the POF and MKE imported MP5's make more sense. The MPX being gas operated might be better for suppressors though?

As an SBR (or Sig Brace) I can see it being awesome, kept in pistol form I just don't get that it could do anything better (and most things not as well) as half a dozen different 9mm pistols that cost half as much???

Am I missing something on this?

In pistol from:

Not very appealing to me either (even though I own one) but It does have a 8” barrel for more velocity, and longer sight radius, easy to mount any optic (mine sports an Aimpoint T-2 Micro), I have seven 30 round mags. So, even in its pistol form, I get many more rounds on target faster and more accurately than any standard pistol I own. Even though it is small compared to an SBR, I can bench up and put round after round on a torso sized plate at 100 yards. Who knows what it would do with a magnified optic? Obviously not going to work for a concealed carry weapon but, not bad to have laying around the house/truck.

In SBR from:

Add stock, combat light, and suppressor. Yeah, that is where its shines. That is where I’m going with mine as soon as the Fed’s get their act together. Sig makes 5 different models of this weapon. Only one is a pistol version. Only one is semi-auto.

Forms In. FINALLY!!!

I got a call from the gun shop today and the news was good. Form-4 came back from the BATFE for my Ti-Rant suppressor. Also got a Sig collapsible stock a while back and an approved Form-1 to make it a short barreled rifle.

My MPX is now in the form that I envisioned from the beginning. I shot 80 rounds through it today at a 100 yard indoor range. The purpose of all this (other than fun!) was to get the 147 grain XTP's zeroed at 50 yards.

That puts me 3/4" high at 25 yards, on at 50, and 2.5" low at 100 yards. Ten yard shots hit about 2.0" below point of aim. All 80 rounds shot with the suppressor on. It is super quiet. No gas or spray to the face at all. I have still yet to have any kind of a malfunction with this weapon.

Even though I was shooting with an unmagnified ret dot optic, accuracy was outstanding. Three and five shot groups shot at 50 yards were ranging from 1.0 to 1.5 inches. Twenty five yard groups were around 0.5", and 10 yard groups were in the same hole. I had the gun propped on my range bag with a squeeze bag under the stock. It would not surprise me to shoot one MOA at 100 yards with a magnified optic and match grade ammo.

Here is how mine is configured:

- Aimpoint T-2 Mico optic.
- Surefire Mini Scout light with Larue quick detach mount.
- Sig Sauer collapsible stock.
- Advanced Armament TI-RANT 9S™ suppressor with fixed barrel spacer.
- Geissele Super Semi-Automatic Enhanced (SSA-E) trigger.

Ammo - Hornady 147 grain XTP hollow points. 1050 fps (subsonic). Loaded on my Dillon RL550B using assorted range brass.

What a fun project this has been! Here is some eye candy:
