Now that the winter has hit up here in the frozen north I've gotten back to carrying my full size P220 out and about. Works fine most of the time but I've been feeling like I might want a bit more compact .45. I was looking around and see that there's a P220 compact version with a shortened grip. I, however, haven't been able to find dimensions and was wondering if someone who owns them both could compare the size vs the P225 (which I also have and used to carry prior to my SR9c)?

In addition, if possible, how does that compare to the P250's "Compact" version, since I'm still intrequed by this modular pistol and am considering it as an option as well. And yes, I actually do like the DAO trigger for it.

Weight isn't much of an issue, since the fullsize P220 is fine for me, nor is barrel length really a problem since I carry IWB, just grip length/width.

Thanks

I have never seen a P220 Carry in person, but looking at it on the SIG website using the 360 viewer, it seems to be the same thickness as the standard P220. Grip also appears to be the same, as the description says it is a "full size frame".

The only difference seems to be a shorter slide and barrel on the P220 Carry.

Thank you for that site. I had it bookmarked once upon a time and lost the link, and couldn't find it on searches since I couldn't recall where I first found the link.

I'm definately considering the P250 in the compact version, which looks to be about P225 size, which conceals pretty good for me. That way I can shell out for a 9mm kit and get used to the trigger on the much cheaper (especially out here in bush Alaska) 9mm before working in the .45.

I still find it odd they made a P220 "Carry" that doesn't even touch the one dimension that makes the most difference for concealment; at least for me.

I had a 239 and a full size 220. For iwb carry there wasn't enough difference to justify carrying the 239 over the 220. What the spec sheet says and what they actually are when compared side by side are two different things. Not that the spec sheet is wrong just when you physically feel and see the difference you realize how little it really is.

the P220 compact has a shorter barrel and a shorter grip but is nearly identical to the P220...(as is the discontinued but well loved P245)

Also remember that the Carry and the Compact are different. The barrel length is the same, but the carry has a full length grip. I have a compact with aluminum grips that conceals easily. Not the lightest gun to carry, but as they say...comforting.

Out of curiosity where did you get the aluminum grips?

I've got a P220 Compact and I wish that I could get thinner grips. It's by far the thickest part of the gun by far.
