I have an older Sig P220 (1994) and it's finish is looking kind of ratty. It doesn't have many rounds through it, but it doesn't take much to make them look worn. I don't ccw it or take it to the range very often. It's kind of like a "sunday driver" car in the garage that doesn't get driven much. I want to have it refinished, but with all the options available today, I'm not sure of which one would be the best choice. I was thinking about Sigs nitron finish. Does anyone on here have any experience with it? What are some of the other options I should look at? Would having it refinished increase or decrease the value of it? I'm not planning on selling it, just gonna hand it down to one of my sons. Any help, maybe pics would be much appreciated! Thanks

SIG 220 Finish

Blindref, I used to have a SIG 220 which overall was a great gun, but it did have an issue with the finish and surface rust. I ended up trading for a Glock 19 which you CAN'T destroy no matter what. As far as the SIG goes, try the gun doc in Miami. I understand he used to do the finish for the folks at SIG before they figured out how to do it themselves for less money.

I kind of like Duracoat. I have an older 220 as well and the slide needs a new finish. I am leaning towards the duracoat.

Another vote for Robar's NP3. I had my 1911 done by Robar with NP3 on the frame and the internals. It's a very nice looking finish and freakishly slick; even bone dry the frame feels like it was oiled ever so lightly ... sort of. It's really something you have to feel to believe/appreciate. Once I've gotten my Sig 229 broken in, I plan on sending it to Robar for an NP3 treatment on the internals as well. NP3 is some amazing stuff, IMO.

I have my SiG Sauer P225 at SiGARMS for Nitron'ing right now...standard SiG Blue is kind of weak...I don't think much of their "K" Cote either...electroless nickle, hard chrome are all applied over the metal so they add some to the metal...I had pretty good luck with electroless nickle from Klein Plating...who SiGARMS used but they no longer do pistols...Tripp won't hard chrome the alloy frame...Nitron is "supposed" to be similar to the Tennifer process (embedded in the metal making it stronger) while the "color" is applied over it...should that wear, the Nitron or Tennifer or Melonite is STILL in the metal...good luck with your quest...
