Sig P226 Short Trigger

Short of buying it and installing it, how do I know if the Sig short trigger would be a good thing or not?

Not sure what you mean by "good thing"
If it makes the gun fit you better, I guess it would be a good thing for you.

I have relatively short fingers and the short trigger helps me shoot my P229 in
DA mode.

As you probably know, the "short" trigger is actually thinner in cross section, reducing the length of pull or trigger reach (from grip backstrap to trigger face) by about 3/16 of an inch; it does not change the length of the stroke or the actual pull weight. Are you having such a problem with trigger reach now? If not, it is improbable that it would really do anything for you.

I did not know the actual dimensions - thanks.

Right now, I can rest the pad of my strong-side index finger tip on the center of the trigger without effort - but my finger is pretty well extended. I guess I'm wondering if I'd find it easier to pull DA if my finger were less extended.

Dunno - I have no clue as to the biometrics of all this.

I recently installed short triggers on my Sig P226 and SP2022. I have large hands, but relatively short fingers and the modifications made a significant difference. I've actually neglected shooting both pistols for quite some time due to the long DA reach. After the trigger swaps, both pistols are much more pleasurable to shoot and now find their way into my range bag more frequently.

If you decide to do the swap, I'd recommend either purchasing the Sig Armorer's DVD or PM me and I will forward detailed written instructions.

You really want to get the trigger closer to the "crease" of your first finger joint for SIG's long DA pull. The increased leverage will also make it "feel" lighter, although as mentioned it is actually not. You might well benefit from the short trigger.

That's super, and I appreciate it. I actually found a PDF of the Sig P226 Armorers Guide online yesterday, and I was in the process of installing the Sig rebuild kit - springs and pins - when this question came upon me.

I have Wolff reduced power hammer springs on the way (20lb in place of the stock 24lb) and the short trigger. As soon as they arrive, I get to bolt this thing back together and see how it feels.

I had the short-trigger installed on my P226ST. I found that for a DA shot, it felt much better, but it also compromised the SA to me in that it felt a little awkward. You'll pretty much only know from installing it in your gun, or trying out one that has it to see if you like it. Figure worst case would be you don't, and then you sell the trigger to somebody else for a loss of a few bucks.

In my case I sent my gun to Grayguns, and had them install their own custom 'intermediate trigger'. They take the standard trigger, and remove material to get this right in the middle between the standard and short trigger. The best of both worlds to me.
