Which would you prefer for CCW'ing the P239?

BTW, does anyone have any comparison photos between the 239 and a commander(preferably bobtail) 1911?

I prefer the 9mm, but having to chose between .40 and .357 SIG, I'd go with the .357. Just about every .40 that I have now has a .357 barrel in its place.

357sig! Course, I think they both work great, though .40 is cheaper to shoot if you buy ammo at walmart. if you buy bulk online, prices are pretty much the same.

In a p239 I'd go with 9mm. I have a 239 SAS in .40 with the wood grips, and the grips and front strap are so slick that after a few rounds and a bit of perspriation on your hands, it's really difficult to hold onto. But that slickness does make it comfortable to carry.

The 357 sig is great if you stockpiled or reload. Stick with the 40 S&W,you get equaal ballistics and can find the ammo.

I don't own a Sig, but I do have a G32 in .357 Sig. I love it. Great round. I was worried it might be a little harsh in recoil before I got it (I had no experience with the Sig round), but it is very controllable, and its like my Glock shoots laser beams, it's so accurate.
As far as ammo goes it is the one handgun caliber I have been able to find at Wally world lately and have been buying it slowly to stock up. I believe Georgia Arms is selling 1000 rounds of canned heat for 300 bucks. I'm thinking about placing an order with them... http://georgia-arms.com/357sig.aspx

I have a P239 in 357SIG. Its a good pistol, but so close to a P229 size wise, I'd choose the P229 and the extra 5 rounds in the mag over it.

The factory grips on the P239 are a little skinny for my taste and I replaced them with a set of Houge checkered coco bolo's. They give the right amount of "swell" in the palm. To bad SIG doesnt offer a set of factory grips with the swell too, I'd be all over them.

357SIG is (or was) readily available online, and is always on the shelf in both Walmarts near me. It and 22-250 were actually the only two boxes still on the shelves the last time I was in. Cost wise, its the same as .40 when you buy it in bulk.

I have spare .40 barrels for most of my 357SIG guns. I got them as a back up, in the rare chance 357SIG wasnt available, and really only use them occasionally. I prefer the 357SIG over the .40 and thats what I keep in the gun.

GO with the 40SW. I carry it and its an accurate, easy to shoot firearm.

If I get a P239 it will be the SAS Gen2 two-tone, and it will be wearing custom horristes burl grips.

One thing I worry about is whether or not the barrel on the P239 is long enough to bet the .357 up to a speed that makes it worth choosing over 9mm.

I've been the P-239/ .40 / 357 sig over ten years.

Using Double Taps info to keep things apples to apples more or less, The 125 grain 357SIG out of a 3.5" barrel is running around 1415 fps. Their 124 grain 9mm+P is running 1295 fps out of a 4" barrel. The 357SIG jumps to 1450 fps out of a 4" barrel.

Buy the P239 in .40S&W, then you can use a drop in barrel to shoot .357SIG with the same magazine, if you get it in .357 you will need to get .40 mags as well as the barrel to shoot both with the same gun. This is only true for the P239 all the larger SIG mags will feed both. Either way it is a great gun for it's size, but I prefer the P226 or P229. I usually carry the SIG P232 which is light on power but is thinner and lighter, for home defense it's the P226 with Tritium nite sights in .40 S&W.

I'll probably do that, but what I'm mainly concerned with is what to put in it when I use it for CCW. I'm wondering which round has greater stopping potential out of the 239.

I have heard that several State's Trooper departments have adopted the .357Sig as the State's official round because of its effectiveness.

I have the P229 that I bought in .40S&W. I later bought an aftermarket .357Sig barrel. The .357 Sig seems to be "snappier" than the .40S&W rounds

In my view, either will be highly effective and certainly up to the task of controlling two legged critters.
