Sig P6?

Great pistol, especially for a beginner. 9mm is plentiful and still somewhat cheap, its a classic reliable design, and its pretty accurate too. Its not too big but not too small. Mags are expensive however, so try and find a store that sells them with at least 2 mags. All you have to do is find a local gun dealer and give their FFL information to whatever online store you choose to buy from, then that store can ship directly to your local shop. There, you fill out the paperwork and the gun is yours. See if you can find a site that offers a 'hand select' option, this *usually* gets you a gun that is in slightly better shape, and in my opinion is worth the 10-20 extra dollars they usually charge. One word of advice, avoid the 'ProMag' brand magazines, they are aftermarket brand and questionable quality. I think youll enjoy this gun, I got one to complement my USP .45 so that I could still shoot pistols on the cheap, and so far I love it.

*Ah another thing, sometimes they dont like hollow-point ammunition, so make sure you test all ammo before you rely on it for defense*

ditto what lloydK said... The Sig is a great, quality gun... make sure you get 2 mags (again, mags for the P6 are alittle pricey), you can pay-up for AIM to 'hand-pick' a better lookin gun, but not necessary, AIM guns are pretty good (they're in Ohio)... try to find an FFL who charges about $10-20 for the transaction (I pay $15)... over $25 is kinda a rip... Remember, some retailers feel you're taken business from them and aren't too excited about 'net' gun sellers, so shop around for an FFL... Gunsmiths can be more reasonable $$.
Shot one last week (friend got it from AIM)... only 'mild' negative (compared to the P229 I have) was the trigger was alittle 'stiff'... but the quality was great, and the hand feel (for me) was perfect... and it shoots like a SIG... GREAT GUN!
When you add shipping and FFL$, for about $300+ it's a no-brainer... can't really go wrong, I'd get it!
 
Just picked up two of them from AIM (actually one is for the GF) and they are pretty nice. My friend bought one several months ago and replaced the trigger spring as he thought it was a little heavy. Both mine are pretty good as is. AIM also has some P6 mags, from ProMag I think, so you might consider just getting a couple more since you'll be paying for shipping anyway.
 
Actually I have 2 ProMags, as well as 3 factory mags, and I havent had a single problem with any of them. I didnt reccomend them, though, because I have heard so many stories of problems with them. For range use/reload drills/etc they are fine. Just use your factory mags when loading up to carry or for home defense.
 
Keep in mind that the P6 was designed for ball ammo. Many P6's, mostly older ones like my 1984 P6, will not reliably feed JHP. In fact, it will not feed several brands of JHP at all.

Despite this problem, I have chosen NOT to send the slide and barrel back to Sig who will correct the feed ramp to feed JHP's. I have chosen to carry either FMJ or Pow'RBall in my P6 (I usually just carry my P6 with Pow'RBall loaded up).
 
Is there a way to tell before firing it? I already have one on layaway, fairly nice looking one, and it's not a big deal to me, but if there's a serial number range or such thing to tell beforehand, than I'd rather not buy up a bunch of JHP.
 
Good solid pistol, worth the money as well.

Look on Sigforum, you may find a source for some 225 magazines.

Good thing about them, they already have carry wear. If you are anal about rubs, blems, and wear on your pistols- no worries.
 
My "Promag=sux" comment was based upon the fact that every ProMag I have ever owned was less reliable than factory magazines and the ones in my P220 caused hard stoppages often enough I was done with them entirely.

I liked the P6 enough that I bought a quantity of them and stage them in tactically prudent locations and often carry one as a CCW.
 
I heard the same thing about FMJ vs JHP ammo afterbuying my P6, so I was a little worried. I've fed it some Wally World Remington JHPs, some of my reload JHPs, and 147 gr Gold Dots and it ate them all up without a hitch. Looks like I got a good one!
 
KingAirDriver: what year was your P6 made?

As for the Sig fix, if you send them the entire upper of the gun (slide and barrel), they will correct the feed ramp by cutting it from 52 to 54 degrees. Apparently removing those two degrees cleans up the JHP feed problem nicely.
 
Believe me when I say I have seen hundreds of Sig P6's lately and they are one of the best values I have seen in twenty years

With the exception of wear they are in good shape and will last a life time
