So around $600. This one has a Buy It Now of $700 and a reserve; don't know what it is though.

I am toying with either an 1861 or an 1851, any opinions on which is better?

1861 Colt Navy .36 Signature Series
I paid $375 last year and I know I got a good deal.

I didn't do as well as pohill (paid $415, without the case or accessories), but I love the "Python" blue and rich case colors, and the smoooooooooth action is awesome -- better than many CF revolvers!

Good luck!

Old No7, I bought mine in Kittery. Sometimes they don't know what they have.

Hi JPH...

"I am toying with either an 1861 or an 1851, any opinions on which is better?"

My 2 cents wurff is that I like the 1861 version because of the improved ramrod arrangement.

Local opinion may vary.

Hi Old 7...

Beautiful piece !!!

Thar be another yank! Who Hoo! No 7, pohill! Must be down east over ta' Searports way eh?

Now I smoked.. Jim down ta' Kittery is a skinner, so I have some doubts treasues like that will escape with out loss in blood, hair, or more greenbacks!

pohill $ Old No 7,

Those are some beautiful sixguns you boys have!

I have a pair I use in cowboy shootin'. Can't go wrong with 'em! I like the looks and the blade front sight more than the '51.

Recently there was an UNTURNED '61 second generation on an internet auction. I think it went for around $700.

Old No7 Where did you get the Case and accessories

I own several Colt Signature Series revolvers: a consecutively numbered pair of 1851s, an 1861 plain blue, an engraved Custer 1861, a pair of 1860s that are standard and fluted, and an 1860 that is the fluted officer's model.

One of the 1851s and the Custer remain unfired. All the rest have been fired and are great guns.

Case & Accessories

Uh guys, I got mine at Kittery too!!!

Anyway...

The case came from Cabela's, but I don't think they list them any more. And the flask, mold and cap case came from Dixie Gun Works. They might carry the cases though...

And yes, I do make smoke with this pretty '61! She's the best handling and shooting BP revolver I've ever had, shooting right on POA at ~25 yards. My older .36's (now traded off...) all shot about 12" high, which I've heard is typical.

Tight groups & white smoke to all!

My wife surprised me with my '61 Signature Series for Christmas, 1995. I still have the Gander Mountin receipt - $450. I later got the Signature Series accessory kit and display case/box. I have owned many BP revolvers - none shot like this one - great balance and accurate. I don't get to shoot it often, but when I do...man, it's great!

Photos of my Sig Series and an original '61 I recovered are here: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=288182

Not a "Colt" 2nd gen or Signature, but a few years ago I got a Uberti 1861 Navy that I am quite fond of. Beautiful little gun that shoots dead on and handles very nicely. It seems to be the equal of a 2nd gen 1851 I had years ago and perhaps a little better. Found a case for it and all in all it is a very classy piece of work and a delight to use.

(In other words, as different from a Glock as it is possible to be...)
