Marshall-
I know what you mean about the two tone, I agree with you, but it seams that everybody calls it reverse TT these days.

The picture in my post before yours has the P226 that Brad refinished for me. His work and prices are excellent! I've put over 4000 rounds through my P226 since I've gotten it back from Brad, and the finish looks just like the day I got it back. I've also broken in a new leather holster with it. I use that gun for IDPA. His finishes are VERY durable.

Tysons Corner, Va. was one of the first importers of Sig back in the early to mid 80's.
If you look under the front edge of the slide just forward of the frames dust cover, there will be some proof marks and two letters. The letters are the year code.
A = 0
B = 1
C = 2
D = 3
E = 4
F = 5
G = 6
H = 7
J = 8
K = 9
So if the two letters are "JE" it would be a 1984.

I used to be a huge Sig fan. I have had or still have tons of them.

Unfortunately they are not the company they used to be. They are not the old German company that produced the classic P series guns. Instead they are a mix of Kimber execs running a new gun company Sig Sauer which is leveraging the older German made P series products. The Kimberazation of Sig is sad to see. It makes be sad to see it change for the worse.

New addition to the "family" P229ST

I've been looking for one for some time now. They are VERY rare. I called Sig to find out how many they made and all they could tell me was very few. I've heard that they made between 200-300. I like the fact that it doesn't have a rail. I don't know if all P229STs don't have a rail or not.

I found it here in the classifieds and it was only about 50 miles away! The seller said it only had 24 rounds of .40S&W and 24 rounds of .357sig through it. I didn't want the .357sig barrel so he is selling it seperately (his screen name is MEH if anyone is interested).
The gun is in absolutely perfect condition. I haven't shot it yet (hopefully tomorrow) so I can't give you a range report.

Here she is :D

I had a set of Hogue wood grips that I was saving for something like this.

P229 40cal non-railed JOY!!

...

Well, this time last year I would be chomping at the bit, the wood grips, bit..lol

But, each year, actually just this last year, my hands are talking a lot, and I have found that "practicality" must rule in my guns and my hands.. So, wood is out, mostly Houge rubber side panels only, like on my P229 40 non-railed gun, and of course, the rubber CT grips on the other P229 9mm.

And the switch to thin, Houge rubber wrap-around fingered grips, on my P220, are making me.. :)

But I have to agree..:what: wood grips, your collection of them, is nothing short of perfection.. IMO.

Glad ya got a P229 ST, and just load-up with 180gr FMJ or JHP and sit back and enjoy the show.. I feel confident that you'll find out quickly, how "balanced" the P229 is, and the recoil is smooth, back on target quick, very quick for me and mine.. I love mine, as Beretta has "finally acknowledged the trigger sting issue" with mine, and others, Px4 40cal, and is sending for my gun but, between you, me, and the bedpost, no matter IF they fix it, it is no longer my primary 40cal, not even close compared to my Sig..

BTW, did you get any flush 12 rounder HC mag/s with her? Very nice, believe me.. :)

Thanks for the info 1BLINDREF. The date code on mine looks like a J6 or maybe a JG?

I still have to disagree with you about the TT, 1911's builders have been doing it the original way for years. :)

Here are some pics of the hackers work:

Here is the slide, you can see the paint spatter and the fine machine work :rolleyes: :

I still can't say enough about the work Brad did on this gun. It looks brand new inside and out. I will get pics of the whole family and post them later.

You LUCKY BASt.... Well, you know what I mean. That is a sweet find. I am a huge fan of the ST line. I'm not totally sold on the P229 as of yet, but if I got one, I'd wish it were that one.

Beauty and the Beast..

Quote: SigArms is Sig Sauer now. They simply changed the name recently. SigArms has existed since about 1985 when they were in Tysons Corner, VA. They were a quality company as Sigarms up until about 2004 or so when they started to be a manufacturer versus and importer of Sig Pistols.

Yep, just found this bit of info in another thread..

MD, threaded barrel, and all, from what the other guy did to her and now :what: wow!! what a difference you have had-done to her.. She's a beauty now, and the love shows..

I'm on the fence as to possibly adding wood grips to her, but I like wood grips on some 2-tone guns (Sigs) I have seen, think 1BR has some..

Either way, ya did good to her..

Here is the family

Middle right is my first Sig, a P226 9mm purchased new in 1995 (KF date code). Top left is my second Sig, a P226 40. I sold the first one and bought a 9mm upper(date code JJ) to shoot on the P226 40. Last year I bought the first one back and you know the story about the P220.

Thanks! I've never seen flush factory Sig mags for the P228 / P229s. The two mags I got with the gun are the regular ones with the little ridge on the bottom.
I really like the P229s. I carry my P229 .40S&W DAK and love the way it shoots and balances. I shot it in a few IDPA matches and did pretty good with it. The only reason that I switched to a P226 9mm was because of the price of the ammo. I was paying about half for 9mm vs .40S&W so it made sense to switch so I could practice more.

MarshallDodge-
That hacker should have been arrested for Sig abuse! Again, great job on saving that P220!

I think you mis-understood what I posted. I agree with you.
TT guns are the way your P220 and my P226 are finished. That was the original TT.
For some reason they started calling it reverse TT not too long ago :confused: :)
Nice family you got there :)

PPGMD-
That is a sweet P226ST!!
What kind of sights are on it??
Who made those grips and where did you get them??
Is it a 9mm or .40S&W (I can't see the marking on the barrel)

I found a NIB P226ST 9mm on the Sig Forum. I can't wait to get it.
I hope it gets to my FFL today.

It's a 9mm, the grips are the Hogue Extreme Alminum grips (you can get them at Top Gun Supply), the sights are the Warren Tactical rear with the Dawson front. Gray Guns did all the work on the gun, and did a very good job.

1BLINDREF - man, that's gorgeous. Congrats on a very nice find. Something classy and sleek about the full stainless look. Looking forward to hearing how she shoots!

Just under three weeks and my P229 will be back from Tripp. Dang, I miss it now that I've seen your pictures!!

Thanks! Looks like Sunday morning will be the day - I can't wait!!
She should really soak up any of the .40S&W recoil. I took the slides off of the ST and my alloy framed P229 DAK tonight. The weight difference is really noticable. I don't think that the recoil of the regular P229 in .40S&W is bad at all. I can't imagine what the ST will feel like. We'll see.

I'm also looking forward to you getting your gun back from Tripp and seeing the pictures. I was really torn between Tripp and CCR when I had my P226 refinished. I chose CCR and I wasn't disappointed. I'm sure I would have been just as happy with the job that Tripp would have done. I've seen quite a few posts with pictures of their work and they were beautiful.

Looks like they locked that thread we were on. I don't understand why. I didn't see anything that looked out of line. I wonder if the Glock boys took offense to your Glock kaboom graphic (which by the way was AWESOME!) or the troll spray picture I posted.

Just to be safe 1BR, ya better PM me your home email addy asap, as it wasn't your pic, or the glock pic..

I'm doing the same, PM otw..

Sorry Lonestar! I didn't know it was your 229 with the CTCs I have been coveting all this time! I would've sworn it was REF's!

Oh, well... both you guys have awesome collections of SIGs! Thanks for doing the comparison photos for me!

Always glad to help..

No problem Hank, as 1BR's mighty collection inspired me to form up my small herd, but between the 2 of ours, and others, fine collections, I know I speak for the entire group, in here, in hoping you get your own P229 with CT grips, and post the pic when it/she comes home with ya.. asap.

My best, :)

Okay, while I don't own a Sig just yet, I'm seriously considering a used P225 as a first handgun a few weeks after I turned 21. I haven't actually handled one yet, and I understand that there is no substitute for that, but, I have some concerns anyway.

I have kinda smallish hands, so I'm concerned that the Sig won't be a good fit for me, and how great is the variety of grips available for the P225 you can get besides the factory ones? In other words, how customizable are the grips for this pistol to fit rather small hands?

Oh, and this gun, I hope, will serve two purposes. Plinking and defense/CCW.

Ohio Rifleman,

The P225 has a pretty small grip. The only issue might be the DA trigger reach. You can improve this by going to a 18# or 20# mainspring, which reduces the trigger weight a little bit.

Just picked up a CPO P220 elite carry two days ago, I also own a p226R and a P229 nitron, non-rail. I love the reliability and accuracy of a Sig even though the price is considerably higher than most other quality firearms.

Have you had a chance to shoot it yet? If you have I would love to hear a range report. The CPO program at Sig has changed and dealers don't know what they are getting until they open the box. Sometimes there is a nice surprise in there.

Beautiful guns Gentilemen, I love every Sig out there.
Although some of you guys have been saying they aren't making good guns anymore (just a few of ya :scrutiny:), the firearms that I have purchased, handled, or shot have all been great, even the latest ones. My first Sig was actually a 2022, which I know many purists detest, but I found it to be my most reliable and confidence inspiring 9mm to date. Sadly, I traded it in to make up the difference on my 239 because, at the time, I didn't have the extra cash to keep both. I definately regret parting with it though.
I am very happy with the little buddy I traded for though. I bought it brand new and added some nickel accents.

I really want to polish the slide in the Equinox style. Has anyone heard of this being done? I would think it might not be too difficult to accomplish and would look awesome.
Looking for some personal opinions on my next Sig buy. I am in the market for a new Sig chambered in .357 sig (or.40 really, since I'll be buying both barrels. I don't have a .357sig yet). I am pretty sure I want either a p226, or a p229. Anybody have a reason that I should buy one over the other in this caliber? I doubt I will be carrying this weapon a whole lot; I prefer single stack 1911's and my p239 for that, but I might want to carry it every once in awhile. This will be one of those "never to be sold" guns and I plan to get one of the more limited versions, such as the Equinox, Elite, or SCT.
Oh ya, and where can you buy the high cap mags for the 229? I mean the SCT round count ones?

Not yet, but I'll be heading to the range today. You're absolutely right, my dealer was surprised when this one showed up, since he had asked for a Grade 1 P220. I was only too happy to relieve him of it. :cool:

I love those nickel controls on your P239! Where did you get them, Top Gun?

Either gun will be great.
Since it will be mostly a range gun, I'd go with the full size P226. The difference in size between the P229 and P226 isn't really that much. I've carried my P226 in the winter with a sweat shirt in a OWB holster quite comfortably.

Which caliber to get is an interesting question/dilema.
With the crazy prices of ammo, 9mm seems to be the best choice. If it will be mostly a range gun, you'll be able to shoot 9mm much cheaper than the .40 or .357sig.
I'm a big fan of .40S&W (its my favorite carry caliber), but its getting pretty expensive to shoot.
.357sig is even higher. I sold both of my .357sig barrels because I just didn't shoot it much because of the price.
