Silencer for my revolver

How much might it cost (not including the tax stamp) to either have a silencer made for my Nagant, or to have the barrel threaded to accept one attached to the end? How much do .30 silencers go for used?
Which way might be best, have the barrel ported and have the silencer enshroud it, or just get a commercially made one for the end?
I know very little about silencers and I am not sure how unbalanced a silencer would make the revolver if it is sticking off the end, so any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

It won't be very efficient - the gap between the cylinder and forcing-cone of the barrel will allow a lot of noise to escape.

AndyC, a Nagant revolver closes the gap upon cocking, but I do not know how efficiently.

That is correct, the Nagant is one of the fews revolvers that are silencable.
The gap is not just closed prior to discharge, but the brass extending beyond the cylinder seals it.

It is one of those novelty things done just so that I can say I did it. If anything the inexpensiveness of the gun makes it all that much easier to alter without much guilt.

Seems that all the cost would be in the suppressor and little at all in the gun. Perhaps you could get a surpressor for a 9x19 threaded in a standard thread size and simply thread the end of your nagant to match. The inside diameter might be a little larger than necessary but it would still offer some suppression and you could use the can on other firearms.

Here's a pic of an original silenced Nagant (from a Russian book, "Directory of Small Arms", by A.I. Blagovestov). Also, a pic of a modern silenced revolver, made by Knight's Armament; this thing apparently shoots a saboted 30-calibre cartridge, and uses an O-ring setup to seal the barrel/cylinder gap. They built it off of a GP-100.

I guess we all have done stuff because we can. Nothing wrong with that.

I'd go with a factory available 9mm can. Most 30 cal cans are for rifles, so they'd be cumbersome. Barrel threading should be $75 or less. You could make your own for the cost of materails, but I don't know what kind of machinery you have available to make one.

One thing to remember, is that if you're using corrosive ammo, be sure to clean the can when you clean teh Nagant.

Anyone know just how much noise escapes a suppressed revolver?

I don't have any experience with suppressors period, but I know enough that they don't work like the movies show. But, if you did suppress, say a Model 10, would it still be quiet enough to shoot without ear protection?
