Greetings,

I would like ton put a can on one of my rifle to silence it.
Which one would you do?
Ar-15
Savage 110 30-06
M1a
Garand m1

Thank you

I would be very hesitant to suppress an M1 Garand. The gas system is tuned to a single load, and something as simple as a heavy bullet can damage the Op-rod. I imagine the backpressure from a can could do some real damage. At the very least, you'd want an adjustable gas plug, even then it would be very long, and even heavier.

Buy a .30 caliber can, and run it on your savage and your AR.

Greetings,

The ar is in 223. Can it be ruined with a 30 cal can?

Thank you

No. It won't suppress a .223 as well as a .223 can will, but it will be effective enough until you buy another can for the AR :)

I would start with a .30 cal can. It can suppress all your rifles. (I also question the wisdom of suppressing a Garand.)

You CAN use it on a .223 and it will be reasonably effective. The volume is large enough, and the exit diameter is a bit bigger, but overall it should work pretty good. That is until you decide to get a dedicated .223 can.

A LOT of .223 cans have rather large exit holes anyway, so you won't be missing THAT much.

Greetings,

Additional question: How much sound compared to the unsuppressed sound a 308 in a M1A does it do? I know the supersonic bang is pretty loud, but is there any sound going out when the cartridge extract?

Thank you

There is a video that compares a 308 suppressed with a .22LR (Unsuppressed). I'll see if I can find it.

I don't think the action cycling on a M1A is going to make any significant noise. The bullet should have left the barrel before the action cycles.

It would surely take the same "can" as a .223; you would just have to buy one with the right threads for your rifle. Or have the muzzle re-threaded.

Ok now next question. Which can should i buy for my m1a?

I can thread my other 30 cal guns to fit it easilly anyway

So that's pretty much everything on the market.

What mount type- threaded or quick attach? Threaded will be quieter as the QA mount takes up can volume.

Weight or length a concern?

Material preference? Chrome-moly steel isn't as corrosion resistance as stainless steel, but is a bit cheaper.

YHM, AAC, and GemTech have good products. I'd stick with one of those three.

Check out http://www.silencertalk.com . A few people there have suppressed M-1a's. It has been described as less than ideal for suppression as the gas vent near the front sight lets out lots of noise. The AR-15 is considered a better host even though you get increased gas discharge in your face from the gas tube.

You will probably most satisfied with the results on your savage bolt gun. Any of the major manufacturers will make a good can for them. Just need to decide based on effectiveness, weight, length etc.
