Silly question

Which is better when running a progressive press- standing or sitting? Dillon suggests standing. Press is on its way from Dillon, I want to start out right, AFTER reading the owners manual repeatedly!

I"ve never found a way to sit and reload that was comfortable. I suppose body type is part of it..long vs. short arms,etc.The arms on most presses have to travel quite a ways to hit the bottom of the stroke,so a taller bench and standing to work is what get's 'er done for me.

btw,whcih press did ya go for?? I love my 550b,and put up with my sdb.

I sit to run my Hornady Pro-Jector press. I built my benches tall on purpose, so I could use a stool and sit for most operations. My press is made so the handle can be adjusted for the length of throw, so it's perfect for sitting. I also sit for using my RCBS Rockchucker and Hollywood presses.

I sit when reloading, but its a prefrence for me I am more comfortable this way youll just have to set it up and see how it feels. I load on a 550 and 650there is a company that sells a flash light that fits right in the center hole on the tool head that helps alot I think there $9

Good call on the new equipment I sure you will enjoy it just be ready for the "blue koolaid" jokes they soon be coming.

I load on my Rockchucker and DSDB standing. Loading 40 at a time on the RC is not uncomfortable. The SDB is another matter as standing permits you to look into the case which has just been charged and check the powder before seating a bullet. Just a little precaution to prevent squibbs which can ruin your day.

I've never been able to find a way to sit comfortably and reload so I stand . . .could be that I'm biased as I sit all day long and the last thing I want to do when relaxing is sit.

It'd be interesting to know what the guys who "sit" when reloading do for a living. It might be that they're on their feet all day.

I sit on an old milk can to use my RCBS Jr. and Rockchucher. It's the perfect height. When I use my Mec shotgun presses I stand.

I cannot imaging how sitting allows you to pull that lever without straining yourself in the back, shoulder area.

I stand when I load. and I place my powder scale at eye level.

It is not a silly question at all.

as a side note bar stools seem more natural for me. But my bench is a might taller than others.

I sit while running my SDB. However it should be noted that there is probably a considerable amount of difference in sizing a lubed straight wall pistol case a big rifle case, your position may depend mostly on how much leverage you need.

It probably doesn't hurt that I have weird long gorilla arms either.

Thank you all for your imput. SDB should be here soon. Will probably end up getting the strongmount accesory to raise it up a little so I can operate while standing IF my bench still isn't too short. I used to say I'd never load 9mm, but with ammo costs constantly increasing I'm rethinking that. I used to say I'd never own a Glock, An AR-15, and never get married! Damn- never is a long, long time!!

Exactly! Sitting while at work will get me fired! I stand while assembling stuff, so the thought of standing while reloading is completely foreign to me. I use an old solid oak swivel office chair, on a tiled floor, it gives me the flexibility to move it to a perfect position. No problem with my back either.

I sit while I reload just because staying on my feet too long in one place makes my legs ache. I converted a captains bar stool to a caster set up so I can glide between presses, or over to the case trimmer, or the rockchucker.
Works for me!

I sit in a rolling chair. Works out nice except when doing .357 or .44 mag. The leverage for those two strains my shoulders.

I sit, but its really uncomfortable after about 50r. I have a new bench on order and when I get that Im going to make a riser to lift the press so that the shell holder is somewhere between my chest and neck.

I am a paranoid guy, so I check for powder all the time and it slowes me down. I want to rig a mirror so that I can see that each case gets a charge.

Im also going to work on growing a third arm, which I feel will really speed things up.

Seated in an office chair. I built the bench low (desk-top height) just for this purpose. I currently have a 650xl and a big single stage press set up.
