I'm looking for a simple reliable pistol with minimal features/options. Pull the trigger and it fires, no external safeties, indicators, or anything else that could malfunction or cause a stumble in a high stress situation. None of my current firearms meet this criteria. From what I've read a glock sounds like it fits the bill perfectly. Reliability being key, what other pistols should I look at besides glocks? Don't say revolver, I love em and have a few but I'm looking for a semi-auto.

M&P. One I had - a 9mm compact - was 100% reliable from round one. I like to call it a "better-feeling Glock." 
They are available with or without manual safety levers and/or magazine disconnects; obviously, you want the one without. The loaded chamber indicator is merely a hole in the chamber hood and is passive.

XD, Kahr, S&W M&P, SW Sigma etc..... there are so many good guns out there.
Steyr had huge potential but simply were not good at marketing to the US market.

.40 - which also converts into a 9mm.
10mm - which converts into a .40 (same mags as 10mm), and a .357 Sig

It sounds like you are ready to join the masses and drink the Glock Kool Aid!
You will either love the Glock for all that it is, or hate it for the usual reasons. If it feels good in your hand and the grip angle works for you, you will be very happy with it. If the grip angle seems weird and it takes you two hands to drop the mag, go look at an M&P.
I love my Glock, and don't care one bit for M&P. I have completely competent friends who have the exact opposite opinion.

I wish Kahr put tactical rails on their guns...maybe they do -- but the ones i have seen do not. Let's face it -- majority of polymer people want a tactical polymer gun.....

Glocks are good. You might check out the Smith and Wesson M&P series, kind of a product-improved Glock. The LEM-trigger HK P2000, P30, and HK45 are all nice guns. I'm personally not a fan of Springfield xDs (grip safety), Kahrs (too small, questionable reliability), Steyrs (mine, along with every one I've seen in the wild, was totally unreliable), or Sig P250s (trigger pull from the ninth circle of hell.)

I like the Glock in theory ... but every time I get one in my hands I don't like them.
Of all the current Glock like pistols on the market I recommend the S&W M&P the most (although my EDC is a Steyr S40 ... I'd recommend the Steyr if they were more widely available and you could get plenty of accessories for them).
For me the two things that put the M&P over the Glock are the way it feels in my hand ... and the trigger.

The trigger? That puts you in some very exclusive company, the vast majority despise the M&P's sigma trigger. Apex is making a fortune by manufacturing a replacement for the M&P...

For some, a Glock may be an acquired taste. I disliked them and stayed far away from them since introduction, but finally caved and bought a G19 last spring. Like it better every time I shoot it.
Already it's tied with the Browning HP for favorite semi-auto. Won't be long before it overtakes the revolvers.
My advice: Start with a 9mm if you go Glock. That's the cartridge the gun was designed around. If Glock did anything right, they did the 9mm right.

Well, there are two of us in exclusive territory, the M&P trigger works fine for me too. APEX is making a fortune over charging people for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
People like to tinker, they're marketing to those who believe the solution to their shooting problem is their trigger parts. Oh, and they're clever enough to put the "full" package in two distinct parts so they can really gouge you!

Put me into that exclusive company that likes the M&P trigger as is. While its not the gun I shoot best, my CZ75b is. I never felt the need to change out the trigger.

I do like the grip of the m&p....my wife got a trigger job on hers and it really is pretty sweet
Imho...don't limit yourself to just a 9mm...if a 9mm is what your after then get a .40 and then a LW conversion barrel.
Also is what makes Glocks so cool is their super high capacity magazines....
If money is only an object then HK is awesomeness wrapped in polymer....but so is a Glock.

already been mentioned a time or two, but the sw sigma's are very very similar to a glock and are relatively inexpensive.

M&P =\= Sigma ... either you've been shooting a finely tuned Sigma or you haven't actually pulled the trigger on the M&P.
In comparison, Glock triggers are mushy and too heavy (although they can be fixed easily).
Oh and the triggers on my Steyrs are even better (but again I hesitate to recommend them only because of the lack of availability of accessories ... that and I prefer the Pre A-1 pistols which are even harder to find gear for)

Well if you like the M&P, check out the SD series as well, available in .40 and 9mm, priced right at $400 at Academy. Includes a front night sight. Now over 1,000 rounds through my 9mm in 1 month and no FTF, FTE, or any other problem. Saving up for the .40 now.

I like the Glock 23 and the S&W SD40 for 40's and the M&P 45C in 45ACP. If you ever shoot an M&P 45 you'll realize why the GAP is a truly idiotic idea.

The one that *feels* most like a Glock to me is probably either an M&P or an XD.
The one that feels like an upgrade is a Kahr. 8)
