I've got an itch for a Keltec P32 (or P3AT) because I'd like to have a little pocket gun I can stuff in my back pocket an carry a little more comfortable at work.

I'm kind of concerned about sitting on the little plastic gun for hours upon hours.

I figure with a good pocket holster that it should be comfortable, but will prolonged sitting warp or otherwise damage the pistol?

Well, I almost always carry mine in a front pocket but have carried it in a back pocket on a couple occasions... With prolonged use, who knows? But the parts that keep the gun shooting straight are pretty solid and I would think it would wear a second hole in your *** before damaging the gun. And even then, KelTec would probably replace it without asking twice.

I recall reading a post from a fellow over at TFL (maybe it was here, don't remember) that claimed to have broken his P32 by keeping in his back pocket. I believe the magazine catch was the culprit (again, not too sure).

You might want to do a brief search here or at TFL concerning that and see if you can find that particular post.

I've often wondered if people who do back-pocket carry ever draw their gun to find that they've "pressed" the magazine release while sitting and have the mag drop out.

Is that possible?

Cheers,

I too have wondered how folks carry these P32s in their back pockets without cracking slides or frames.

Well....how do you do it?

I haven't had my P3-AT for very long (about a month) but its always in my back pocket and I've never had any trouble. Never dropped the mag or anything. And let's just say, if *anyone* is gonna stress test somehting by sitting on it, it's me. :D

I've carried an Autauga .32 and a P-32 in my back pocket quite often and have had no problems mainly because I am not sitting directly on the pistol.

Are you sitting DIRECTLY on your wallet when you sit down? Probably not. Mine is mostly off to the side. Sure, there is a bit of pressure on a part of it but not much. Same with a P-32 in a pocket holster in your back pocket.

I'm sure with certain pants, depending one the location of the back pockets there could be a problem but I would think this would be the exception.

I doubt that you can crack a P-32 by sitting on it in a holster...I have carried one that way in one of my "oblivion" pocket holsters for over a year....Yea you can disengage the mag. release carrying this way...I took a dremel to my mag. release and it doent seem to be a problem much anymore...I have also cut a small hole in the "print" shield over the mag. release.

I carry mine left handed and it seems to be more prevalent with "lefties".

I'm sitting on mine, even as I type this. Have carried it in my right hip pocket for, well, since they came out, I guess. Now on my second iteration of the little beast with the same SN#. First one wore out, but not from any pocket stress.

I carry in a holster I made by folding a rectangular piece of 7-8 oz leather over the top of the slide, trimmed to length of weapon, and just covering the butt with magazine in place. Then cut out a section from the frame to the butt, curving just behind the trigger, so I can insert my fingers in my pocket, drawing the weapon out with my trigger finger curling around the front of the grip, behind the trigger. I carry this side (right) in, towards my body, butt to the right. (The P-32's butt, that is! :D ) To draw, reach in with hand reversed, drawing weapon, and bring it onto line as you reposition your trigger finger onto the trigger.

Oh, yeah. I cut a pencil diameter size hole in the left side of the holster for the magazine release button. Never had a problem with the magazine popping out.

It is a small plastic gun that has very room for error. If you sit right on it, I would not be surprised if you cracked the grip or broke some of the parts. It is not a Glock and won't take the kind of abuse the Glock will take. If you plan on putting any kind of pressure on it while sitting or doing anything else, I would think the P-32 would be the worst possible choice. Get a gun that is built a little stronger and you should be fine. The P-32 is fine for what it is but it is not going to win any endurance tests!

As for dropping the mag while sitting on it, I think that would be a lot more likely if worn in the left pocket with the gun on the left side... Am I saying that right? If the gun is in your pocket in such a manner that when you sit down, it is left side down so that the mag release would be closer to the chair than your assssssssssssets. :uhoh:

If carried mag release up, I don't think most folks have a firm enough bottom to allow the mag to drop.

here is how I build them...Left hand back pocket??...Mag. release against the "anti print" sheild

Right hand back pocket? Mag. release against your assets:D

Like I said earlier in this thread...It seems to be a more prevalent problem with lefties...

Thats why I have now started modifiing my "panels" so there is less chance of it pressing.

I always carry mine in a front pocket. I sat through many movies, and many days of work that way. No problemo.

Draw is quicker from a front pocket, too.

Speaking of pocket holsters, I think I'd be a lot more inclined to wear a pocket holster if carrying a P32/P3AT in a back pocket. Folks that happened to notice would surely think it was a wallet. Less chance for dropping the mag. smoother and more comfortable for sitting on for extended periods (though I'd probably move it to a front pocket for extended periods it sitting). And the obvious reason of keeping it oriented the proper way.

I have one pair of pants that I can't carry my P32 in without a holster. One time it got turned around, sort of pointing backwards and it got wedged in there... I literally had to pull my pocket out to get the gun out, not what you want to encounter when you need to draw your gun.

Wait 'til you're sitting in your car at a stoplight, say, in your heavy winter gear and all strapped in, when you perceive the need to get into either the front or back pocket to gain access to the KelTec. In that situation, gaining access to the back pocket is a damn sight easier than gaining access to the front......

one of the good things about rear pocket holsters is that they can pull "doubleduty"...if you are sitting for long periods of time then you can switch it to the front and still have the panel blocking the outline...
