size comparison of Glock 19 and Sig 229

I am not sure where they're taking the measurements, but my Glock 19 definitely feels slimmer than the SIG P228 that I had. It is also quite a bit shorter when measured from the bottom of the magazine floorplate (mag in the gun) to the top of the slide, by roughly 5/8 of an inch.

The long reach to the DA trigger was a problem for me, even with an aftermarket (TJ's Custom Gunworks) short one. To hold the gun in line with my forearm, I had to pull with the tip of my finger; to put more of my finger on the trigger, I had to hold the gun nearly sideways. But YMMV and all that.

The 229 slide really is that much thicker than the G19s'...but it doesn't feel like it because you don't hold the slide, you hold the grip frame. The widest part of the 229 grip is the flare in the stocks just below the slide stop, but your fingers grip below this and that part of the panel should be covered by the base of your support hand's thumb.

An even better way to go is with the Hogue aluminum or G10 grips which don't have the flare.

What always surprises me are folks who think the 229 too thick, but feel more comfortable with the single stack 225/P6...they both have the same thickness through the grip frame

Pistols

I prefer the Glock 19 and I've had several Sigs. I trade pistols a lot. I've owned most everything. I currently have: 3 semi-Custom 1911's .45 cal, 3 Glock's 9mm/40 cal, 1 H&K USP Tactical SD 9mm, 1 FN Tactical .45, 1 Keltec, 1 Ruger .44 mag, 1 Beretta .22, 1 S&W M&P .357 Sig (just traded it off).

I mainly carry the Glock 19 and the Glock 23 (both Gen 3). I am constantly impressed at just how good the Glock 19 & 23 is to most anything for carry and general use. As I grow older I carry the Glock 19 more, as the 23 is a bit snappy in .40 cal and more expensive to shoot. In my opinion, if you can carry a "bug" gun. You can carry a Glock 19 just about as easy.

I've had both, but still own the G19. I had to consider the 229 as a full-size due to girth and weight. A fine gun with a wonderful trigger, but not concealable enough for me. Gen 4 G19 is the way to go in my opinion.

I have both and shoot better with my P229. The grip is a bit thicker on the P229 but defintely not a problem for me.

The Glock 19 would have a CCW advatage weight wise but I can't CCW anyhow where I live.

I just picked up a Walther PPQ and I much prefer the grip of it to my Glock 19 not to mention the better trigger. I won't be able to actually try out my PPQ until this weekend though. I am not expecting to be disapointed as I have had range time with the Walther P99 AS that I liked very much.
