Ok, so I know a lot of SKS rifles come with an integral grenade launcher. My question is:

Where is it? I can't see it! I know I'm only looking at internet photos, but jeez, its kind of hard to hide a grenade launcher!
I guess I am used to the m16s with the massive underside grenade launchers...I don't really have a practical purpose for a grenade launcher (well, duh!), but with the rifle running at $139, I'll take what i can get!

Does someone have an SKS photo from a different angle that shows the launcher?

Here is the ''business end'' .. with the launcher muzzle fitting and the grenade launch sights in the up position... (which requires rotation of the gas valve to shut off gas pressure transfer to bolt mechanism).

I have not yet seen the assembly that would be fitted on to employ this .... perhaps someone else can elaborate.

In one of the SKS forums on Gunsnet, they had a whole bunch of photos of SKS's in action. Two with rifle grenades, and one of those actually caught the thing in flight.

Can't link at the moment...I'm at work and Gunsnet is blocked.

Don't know about the SKS for sure, but if it's like some older grenade launcher designs, that's all there is. The grenade slips OVER the ribbed portion. Aim and fire.

Launching grenades is very hard on rifles. In WWII and Korea, it was common practice to set one rifle aside as the 'grenade rifle'. It wasn't used for anyting else, and usually was beat to death pretty quickly.

I look at those YUGOs everytime I go to a gun show.

I don't know.......................................

They're so darn inexpensive........

and

i have a yugo and an albanian..that way they arent alone..and i keep hoping they will mate and make me a new sks...can i dream :D

This might just be me, but...

Okay. You've got the grenade stuck on the end, the grenade sights up, and... then what? How is the grenade fired? Is there a special 7.62 x 39 "Grenade Fuse" that you have to load first, or does a standard 7.62 FMJ activate the rocket? Not that I have an SKS or a grenade, but this is something that I've always been curious about.

The grenade is launched by firing a special blank cartridge, with the gas port turned off, as previously stated.

There are rifle grenade systems that use a bullet trap with a standard FMJ cartridge, but the SKS is not one of them.
