Oh ... you mean ... assembled ... :neener:

This is a Russian 1950 Tula. Not the best pic. It's on the left. The stock is a bit worn, and I was thinking about refinishing it.

I really need to grab myself a Yugo before they begin to dry up.

Here's my ugly duckling...

Though the red dot functions flawlessly, I still think it's ugly. Any opinions?

Sporters take AK mags, but they aren't as common. You are better off going with an AK if you want to use detachables.

I can get 2" on a good day. Target rifles they're not, SKS and AK accuracy is more often measured in minute of person than minute of angle. I have no doubts about its ability to hit a person out to about 300 yards.

tomkatz, how did you cut your barrel?

The guy I got it from said he had it done by a local smith here in western WA. state. It is just a bit longer than a chinese paratrooper. Makes for a VERY handy rifle IMO.
BTW I really like your yugo Carter, I'd like to do one just like that myself;)

What I want to do is get the cheapest Yugo I can find, cut all the junk off and chop the barrel as close to 16" as possible, moving the front sight back. It appears the barrel is tapered so this is easier said than done, I think it might be easier to ream out the front sight than machine the barrel down to fit. This would probably kill accuracy. Just looking for an cheap bubba truck rifle, my current Yugo is just too long for this role.

If I do this the right way, I'll probably be close to the price of a nice paratrooper.
