Wow, this thread is 15 months old. The Skyy is, IMO, a flawed design. Aluminum is too soft for the role it has been given in this gun. The firing pin retaining screw comes loose. The safety is too easily moved during firing.
My dealer finally took my Skyy back, after getting agreement from the manufacturer to take it back from him. However, the return was with the condition that I buy another gun of equal or greater price. Enter the Glock 19. Light, smooth, accurate and with a 15-rd magazine. It's my wife's new carry gun.
A gun that is a bit narrower and lighter than the XD9-SC would be welcomed by me, but not if the lightness and compactness comes at the cost of reliability. I am sincerely happy that some Skyy owners have reliable ones, but the problems I had don't seem like QC sample defects. Mine never made it to 500 rounds.
I'm sorry to hear of the problems with the Sky pistols. Several folks at work have purchased them, and I've shot one. I only put two magazines through it, but it seemed to fire fine... I did have one failure to extract. it seemed to have acceptable fit and finish, but I was a little leary of it... now I'm glad I didn't order with the folks at work.
Yeah, I seriously considered getting a Skyy, but I find more bad reviews then good ones. I have the KT P11 now. They look like nice pistols I hope they can work out the bugs. If for no other reason that KT has some competition.
I bought a two-tone CPX-1 in December at the gun show for a good price. I brought it home, cleaned it and went to the backyard....double feeds AT least twice per mag!
Called Skyy and they sent me a new extractor. Two weeks later said extractor shows up, i put it in and with a tiny bit of tweaking she's up and running......except for the fact that a piece of the slide hold open lever has removed itself from my weapon.
I went out Friday for some more testing and about round #42 the head sheared off the takedown pin. Less than 250 total rounds and she's broken for the SECOND TIME. Another call to Skyy...at 4:45pm.... and Brian told me that my new parts will be mailed either Sat. or Mon.
At this rate, I can get my money back for the gun by June just from selling my broken parts for scrap.
I honestly think that they want to make a quality weapon, and if I replace enough parts it will happen.
I got mine back.
They sent back the original worn receiver.
I guess I'll just shoot it until the frame rails wear to the point I think it's dangerious and send it back again.
That is if something else doesn't break first.
