Slidefire closing

It's a economic move, not a political or ethical one. With the deemed banning of them, it's just a matter of time before the company would be forced to shut down anyway. For now, and in the next month, those folks that think they cannot live without them will order them and thus there will be a final flurry of money to be made. Then the business will close, the owners will take the money and move on to other ventures without having to worry about civil suits. Just folks reading the writing on the wall. Maybe there's big money in the coffee they sell?

All the snooty “I don’t need one” comments amuse me.

I don’t need a slidefire.
I don’t need a binary trigger.
I don’t need a 30 rd mag
I don’t need a semi auto
I don’t need a sniper rifle
I don’t need a handgun
I don’t need a pump shotgun
I don’t need modern firearms
I don’t need muzzleloaders
I don’t need airguns
I don’t need scary knives

Boom. Welcome to Europe.

Interesting. I figured they might try to ride it out. I'm not at all assured that these devices can be banned by Executive Fiat given that ATF has thoroughly examined the law and found them legal. The law hasn't changed, and there is literally decades of precedent that one shot per trigger pull is not a machine gun.

I wonder if it’s not a move to drive a bit of a panic buy. They might create a massive flurry of orders based on the pretense that the supply is limited and the only option is to buy NOW. Then once that boon is over, a decision can be made to close or hold out for another month or two.

Common business sense says keep manufacturing until the stroke of midnight. And "midnight" may never come.
That's what happened with machine guns and sears in 1986 before the Hughes Amendment deadline.

You think Slidefire Inc becomes immune to lawsuits just because they are discontinuing manufacturing the bump stock? Quite likely it's civil suits that are causing them to end production now.

At a Gun Show in March I saw three of them. Two for $399.00 and one for $425.00. There was no panic (actually no interest) by anyone.

This is a sad example of just because it is legal to do so that doesn't mean it is a good idea.

I was mildly relieved to find that at least one of his patent applications was filed as early as 1998.

Back in 2001-2002 I built both Proof of Concept and Prototype bumpfire devices for the AK platform. After a couple of tweeks, that Prototype was a hoot; very controllable for both aim and burst size.

I was at the point to take the next step and paused ...

... and decided against moving forward with development of the device.

I didn't mind that bumpfire devices would be available for purchase, just that my name would not be on any that might be mis-used.

Just a personal decision, y'know? :)

I agree with you. However increasing my rate of fire above my ability to aim doesn't interest me. I grew up very poor and was taught to make each shot count.

And yet, I know of few gun connoisseurs who would turn down a chance to own a registered automatic rifle, if there was no cost to them.

(Now enter Nocan, the Contrarian. Who likes nothing, not even to try it once.)

I would like to have one. They are not worth the three hundred dollars though. One sharp plastic stock, that's sixty clams tops, for me.

What I found silly about the californian pistol grip laws was that it is exactly how I bump fire my AR. Move thumb from grip. Shoulder. Smile!:)

They are going to stop accepting orders and close down the web site. No indication that the company is going to shut down or did I miss something?

Since they don't sell/manufacture anything besides the bump-fire stocks and related products, other than the coffee they push on their website, there ain't much else to them. To liquidate and disperse assets while they still have some makes the best sense. No company left to sue, no lawsuits. Owners can take the profits and reinvest under another name and move forward without the negative sentiment on a new venture.

...as long as there is a demand for the product. Being a small niche product anyway, one wonders if the proposed change to the law is driving a last minute rush, and the company, their R&D and Corporate lawyer, already have seen the darkness at the end of their tunnel. I dunno. But I doubt if it's their morals that are making them shut it down.

I think there is a lesson here that ALL pro 2nd supporters need to learn for the future... It doesn't matter whether you yourself like it, have one, want one or not... We should ALL stick together on pro 2nd issues. Don't let the antis divide and conquer. The next time they may be targeting what you DO value. If we all don't stick together sooner or later we are all going to loose it......... piece by piece.... just as swampcrawler pointed out...
