Slim Semi Autos

What is the point of haveing a semi auto that just holds a few more rounds than a six shot revolver? I will not give up the reliability of a revolver for the few rounds more from a slim semi auto. If you are going to carry a semi auto for personal defense, make it a Hi Cap. To me the revolver is for defense and the semi auto is for offence. orchidhunter

For me, it's the inability to shoot a small revolver as well as a semi. I tried a 5 shot. It was almost uncontrolable in my hand. The DA was a bit hard on the aim too. I switched to an auto about 1978 and never looked back.

I agree with USP9. I shoot my K9 considerably better than my Taurus M85 even though both are DAO.

BTW, there's nothing wrong with having 15 or more rounds crammed in your handgun, but it's somewhat foolish to believe it's a prerequisite for CCW; I do not feel undergunned in the slightest with only 7 + 1 rounds of 9mm +P. Why? Because I know how to shoot the K9 quite well and haven't a doubt I can do what I need with it.

To me the revolver is for defense and the semi auto is for offence.

Maybe all the perceived benefits of a semi-auto regardless of size coupled with the perceived benefits of a smaller pistol regardless of type? Something of a best of both wrolds thing?

Remember, not everyone has the same operating perameters. I know several shooters who have benefited from switching to a smaller semi-auto, even after factoring in for more frequent reloads.

I carry both bottom feeders and wheel guns.
I dont feel undergunned with either.
The auto is slimmer and carries better, holds 3 more rounds, and reloads faster for me.
But there are times, like today, that I like strapping on the wheelgun... Cant say six gun, it was my wifes .44 5 shot snubby.

yes though a small semi auto might carry the same amount of ammo as a small wheel gun, however it is alot easier to carry spare ammo, ie mags, as well as quicker to reload if need be in a fight.

i personally like revolvers but i am more comfortable with running semi auot handguns.

I have a kahr k-40 and i don't feel at a handicap at all with it, it is 6+1 of .40, that isn't as much as i would like to have but with a spare mag it aint to bad.

A "slimnine" typically has an eight-round magazine, for nine rounds topped up. Fifty percent more ammo than a revolver is pretty significant.

Why do you guys carry laser pistols when you can carry a semi-automatic pistol? The laser pistols can short circuit, the cybernetic controls can get viruses, and don't get me started on the time I had plasma leak onto my favorite unitard! Real bullets are the way to go! I feel much safer with 40 rounds of 3mm in my 100% polymer pistol!

I prefer to carry a slim semi-auto for many reasons:

1. I shoot them better
2. More comfortable to carry
3. Can be reloaded quicker with extra mags

Revolvers are usually a little more reliable and can handle a wider variety of ammo but none of my autoloaders jam otherwise the get fixed or go by by.

To each his own.

Also, if you need more than 7 rounds you are in deep doo doo and probably need a shotgun.

This makes me laugh. My girlfriend's grandpa is a huge gun guy, and he likes his old school "reliable" revolvers. He wanted to show a youngster like me a thing or two, so he took me outside his house in the woods to shoot a .45 Colt 6-shot. On my first trigger pull, nothing happened. He mumbled something under his breath, took the gun from me, and then said "must be a weak firing pin spring." He cocked the hammer back, and on the second try it fired.

I don't really know what was wrong with it, but the point is that he thought it worked reliably and it didn't. A high quality, trusted semi-auto that has been properly maintained is no worse than a revolver.

And concealing a 6-shot revolver? I'll pass. The cylinder on a 5-shot is already too thick for my liking.

A 1911 with 8 shots of .45acp and a slide measuring .9" is much more comforting to me. IWB, there is no better setup than a 1911 with a good leather holster.

I'd tuck my Glock 19 before a revolver for that matter..

But hey, to each his/her own.
