Some years ago I picked up an old sling from I'd guess the 80s, it had these sling swivels on it.

They seem to be cheaper made, but good enough I suppose. I like the no nonsense type of button they have instead of the Uncle Mikes type with knurled screw. Does anyone recognize this type?

I'd much appreciate suggestions for better quality sling swivels that would be at home on a fine sporting rifle.

Thanks Steve.
I have actually removed the new finger nut thing from newer swivels, shortened the shaft to remove the threads and chamfered the end. It worked pretty good for a beater sling, but leaves something to be desired for aesthetics.

Looks like the dime a dozen sling swivels that accumulate in most folks box of spare parts.

The knurled threaded type do provide a little bit of assurance they won’t come undone accidentally.

I would spend money on classy sling swivel studs before I worried about the sling swivels.

I can't find high quality swivels, but have seen beautiful swivel mounts like the ones you showed @Bwana John . I don't suppose you could offer advice on similar high grade swivels?

I’ve see “heavy duty”, “mil-spec”, and “locking” sling swivels but nothing really that much difference in appearance to what you already have.

You could go to a “quick release” round push button and a flush with the stock female cup mount, but personally I feel the older type swivel you already have is more secure from an unintended “quick release”.

Thanks for the trouble. That's about the tackiest hack job I ever saw. I am aware of those.... but they don't suit my fancy. I'm looking at getting a nice rifle, and it will have studs attached, so I'm researching what swivels are available.

I think the classiest sling swivel combo is a two screw inletted rear and barrel band front, Safari rifle style.

For the not as sporting rifle sling attachment, I like coated stainless steel wire loops and MASH hooks.

I've been shopping for sling swivels lately, particularly nickel-plated or stainless steel ones. I realize you probably don't want that, but the same ones are almost always offered in some type of black or blued finish since that is so much more popular.

I am going to limit what I show to some options other than the Uncle Mikes type you already displayed, but that still use the traditional stud. If you go away from the traditional stud to some other mount, there are even more options.

Here's the Booney Packer:

This one below is the Talon push-button side-release from Outdoor Connection without the safety screw-down

Note that the Uncle Mikes knurled screws covers are plastic. You can get knurled screws from other makers like Grovtec, Detroit Leather, and Trirock that have metal knurled covers.

The ones below are also from Outdoor Connection, called the Titan. They come in black or gray and appear to be powder-coated:

These use a spring-loaded detent plunger against the brass-colored stud.

The Allen QD swivels below are somewhat conventional in design, but they are remarkable for making them much stronger than typical. They're rated for "over 500 lbs".

Another option is to keep the traditional stud mounts on the rifle, but use a conversion adapter to another style. I can think of two meaningful ways to do this.

First, is with a simple wire bail, and then using a J-hook to clip into it.

This hook is from Blue Force Gear:

Here is another type of cable hook:

The other way to adapt is to the push-button quick-release:

Those convert to the push-button QR. I can't possibly show all the possible swivels that will work with those, but I'll show one just to be clear what fits the above two adapters. This one is from Magpul:

Some of those I was aware of and some not. Thanks, westernrover.

I agree the classiest thing is the inletted rear and barrel band. That't not an option for me. I been looking at the european studs and swivels and I like those. I also like the way the long Winchester hooks look, but I want more secure than that offers I think.

I appreciate the discussion and the suggestions. It might give me a new direction to look. Thanks all.
