I just bought a Remington 870 w/the 2 round mag extension. There is a hole in the the bottom of the clamp which fits between the bbl and mag extension, I assume this for a swivel. What type or brand of swivel will work on this?
Thanks,
Mike

Uncle Mike's makes several types of swivels to fit Remington's mag extension. Most are quick detachable types that lock into the hole.

Years ago, Remington offered a bayonet latch that attached to the same hole. That's why the Remington extension tube has a groove in it.
The groove positions the clamp and a bayonet latch in the exact spot to allow a bayonet to lock on.

That's also why the Remington extension has the odd projection on the front of the mag extension tube. It fits the ring on a bayonet.

Bayonet Lug

Where can you get a bayonet latch (lug)? for the 870 now?

Thanks for the help Fellas. I searched Uncle Mike's and it seems the setup I need is the QD 115 UPS. Now to find the appropiate sling. I think i'll forego the sidesaddle tho.
Thanks again, you guys are the greatest.

Buttstock swivel post

I searched Uncle Mike's and it seems the setup I need is the QD 115 UPS

Does that include a swivel post for the buttstock and how do you put it on the buttstock? Drill a hole?

I have the 870HD with the mag extension, also.

Yes, it is a complete set. Front and rear swivels and the rear stud. Yes, you have to drill your own hole in the stock. But it is not terribly hard. Just measure carefully and drill slowly. The biggest trick is to get the right angle for the hole so the stud shoulders flush when it bottoms out. I used a scratch awl to make a small indention in the stock to use as a start point for the drill so it wouldn't slip off. I started with a small bit first then moved to the correct bit . The instructions gave the bit size to use. I then used the scratch awl thru the stud hole to screw in the stud. There is a seam running along the bottom of the stock so there is not much problem finding the center. Just decide how far forward of the pad you want the stud to be. I just did my 870 turkey gun and it came out ok, altho truthfully I did misjudge the angle just a shade. Here is a link I used before attempting mine.

Good Luck,

The synthetic stock is not very substantial so you need to drill your pilot hole small enough to assure that the threads on the swivel post have the maximum gripping surface. Also, don't locate the post too close to the stock butt.
