Hi... I just received an exciting package the mail, my Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 with an EGW HD Remmi 700 Long Action Base and a set of Burris Xtreme Tactical 1" Low rings. When I attach the rings they can slip forward and backwards! Both rings are doing the same thing. This isn't rock solid. I'm baffled because I see that so many people use this setup and I thought Picatiny rails are universal. I'm going to contact Burris and EGW tommorow... sigh. What do you guys think?

Its good to be mindful of the actual spes on teh rings and base. The best fit will be picatinny spec rings and bases. The recoil notch will be exactly .206'' and the recoil lug for pic spec rings will have just enough tolerance to slip in there without play. Pic spec rings and rail is a great way to go for a solid platform.

The Burris rings are Weaver style rings, the EGW is 1913 (picatinny) spec. Weaver style rings will fit either style base but 1913 rings will only fit a 1913 mount. You should always take note when buying.

For mounting, install the front ring first. Slide it forward in the slot as far as possible (toward the muzzle) and tighten to the mount. Do the same with the rear base, then mount the scope. If, as I suspect, you have already completed the scope mounting, simply loosen both rings from the base, loosen the rear ring from the scope enough for it to slide back and forth, set the rings back down on the mount and perform the above proceedure with the front ring. Then slip the rear forward and retighten to the scope body. You'll have as solid a mount as is possible without exchanging rings.
