Now that Nikon is out of the game what would be a good budget scope to throw on a 12ga slug gun that’s primarily used as a loaner/backup?

I was thinking a 2-7 but not sure the crossfire can handle a 12ga slug no?
I would think it could. They have a great warranty in case there is an issue. It is a budget scope, but I feel it’s worth a chance. I know a lot of guys that run cheaper stuff on slug guns.

I say Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40mm that comes with lifetime warranty. I abused mine rough handling as default test scope for PCCs and it's still doing fine.

Tested on several break-barrel air rifles too and still going strong. (And those have some wham/bang impact on the scopes and cheaper ones don't survive that pounding for long)

BTW, I have a couple new in box that I could PIF if you are interested ;)

I have a Remington 870 12ga with a fully rifled barrel I scored (basically new, looked like it had a few rounds through it) from a gun shop in Colorado for $399 plus tax. I put a Leupold RDS on it and it's really slick looking with a side saddle and stock sock loaded down with 3in slugs!
Oh, I have some 3in 1.25oz Federal slugs and I fired 5 of them rapidly in a row and was done shooting for the day lol! But I would NOT want to be in the way of those things lol... President Biden said all we need is a shotgun, right?

I bought a Bushnell shotgun scope on my slug gun....it's a decent scope. I have used it for years. I think it is a 1.5-5x32.
The thing I DONT like is the diamond reticle.
I think the scope itself is fine. The reticle is not good for slugs. Maybe ok for shooting turkeys with shot....not slugs though.
Avoid the diamond reticle IMHO.

Never liked them either

I have an old bushnell 3x9 rifle scope that came on a rifle package i bought in the 80’s put in on a rifled barrel and it’s worked fine.It holds zero not super bright I not a turret twister so I can’t say about returning to zero but it still works.

I forgot to add this earlier… I had a Leupold shotgun scope that was a 2-7x32 for many years. It was an awesome scope. It was expensive 20 years ago when I bought it, but it was well worth it. It had a heavy duplex reticle that was great for brush hunting.

Find a pre-owned Leupold 1.5-5x20. I’ve been able to get them for under $300 pretty consistently.

Here is an eBay find on my Savage 220.

I really like red dots on slug guns.

Out to the distances I ever was able to reach out to, a red dot was plenty precise. Typically sturdier, great low light performance and easier to use with a parallax-free optic.
