You want small.

And the number one contender for "as uncomfortable to shoot as a Liberator"

small 45s blt.jpg

I guess I like small 45s. Top left is Glock 39 in 45 Gap. It's a P80 frame and in 45 gap, but the p80 frame fits my hand well. It's probably the favorite of the four--soft shooting. Top right is Rock Island BBR 45 acp, 10 round. It took me a while to get it to run (wilson combat ejector, firing pin, and extractor), but it runs well now; heavy at 40 oz. Bottom left is Ruger SR officer 45 acp with 3.5" inch barrel--It's fine but not as accurate as the other three. Bottom right is my 1911 45acp Sentinel. I made it from an 80% stainless Wilson combat frame, but chopped the grip by .5 inches. STI slide, 3" Fusion ramped barrel, Wilson combat sentinal mags, 6 rounds. Took me a few months to get it to run, but it's now flawless and very accurate. I run 185gr gold dots out of it. I had the Kahr CW45 and P45 and never could shoot them well. The glock 39 gets carried the most and then the Sentinel.

As much as I love a good ol' 1911, my vote's for the M&P Shield 45. I'm in Mass. so doublestacks are naturally limited. It's single, but with the pinkie extension, only 1 boolit shy of my Commander 1911; and not too bad in the recoil department. Just about as thin as my Ruger SR1911... Of course, I paid the 'S&W tax' and installed an Apex right out of the box; loved it from day one.

...I got scared by the Interweb naysayers, badmouthin' small .45s and complaining about FTF/FTEs 'cuz of smaller springs, or slides, or such...!

I was very interested in the Springfield XDS2 and the various Kahrs.

Then I unexpectedly won a GB auction for seized property from an Oklahoma PD.

Apparently for $201 plus shipping, tax, and FFL, I will soon be the owner of a Taurus PT145.

I know that the Millennial series fit my hands okay, and I'm pretty sure my G26 holsters fit them.

It will probably have a mushy gross trigger. :(

If it goes bang every time, it should be a less snappy option than the Kahr PM40.

If it doesn't go bang, I can send it back to Taurus or part it out.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. :)

I had a millennial 9mm shot ok, had light strike issues but I think that was hard primers. Be aware on some of them if the trigger isn't all the way forward the safety will engage but it's not safe it'll go bang if you pull the trigger.
Hope it works for you but at that price you shouldn't have an issue getting $$$ back.

Yes, though I had to buzz the bottom of a kydex that went inward a little bit. SIG 220/226 holsters fit it well also.

No probably about it; they are famous for it. OTOH, it's not a bullseye gun, for the intended purpose, it is useable.

It should. Mine didn't like to feed 185 LSWC, but they were my Dad's reloads, I was just shooting them up for the brass. (Obviously, a few years ago.......) After the first couple mags, it's been very reliable. Until I bought a G2c a few weeks ago, it was my main carry gun.

i had one of these as my first handgun. I really liked it-it shot well, and never failed in any way. I thought it was a pretty good pistol.

I still have a Don Hume JIT holster for it. Would you like it?

That would be lovely! :)

It's very kind of you to offer.

Well, The Heizer .45 would be small.......they have a new one:

If you can find one, and are willing to bear the Taurus haters, I like my PT145:

I had a very small Taurus Something Other Pro in 45. Held like 5 or 6 shots. It was very accurate the first two shots. Never could bring myself to shoot it more than that at one time, damn hand hurt too bad afterwards! LOL. I reloaded some wad cutters power loads and shot it lot after that. Sold it to another LEO for his ankle gun and he had it until he retired. He said it never missed a beat, but his hand developed carpal tunnel! LOL

I carry a Springfield XDS in .45. Granted, it is very limited capacity (5+1); however, it is small enough to pocket carry in some cargo pants I wear.

My experience to date is that it shoots well and is not picky about ammo.

If I understand correctly, it's a PT111 Millenium (G2c ancestor) in 45acp.

I've owned a G2c and still own a PT132, which is another version of the same pistol in 32acp.

My stepfather gave me his first-generation PT111 Millenium recently. He prefers his 38 revolver, and he said the Taurus malfunctions fairly often. I'll send it back to the factory when I get around to it.

Due to previous experience, I'm expecting an annoyingly long and mushy trigger pull. At least I know that they fit my hands decently, and I'm decently accurate with them. I'm not recoil sensitive, so the caliber shouldn't bother me.

If it goes bang each time, it should be fine. If not, I can send it to Taurus or part it out. The small Springfield looked very interesting to me, but for the price of practically nothing, I'm willing to give the Taurus a chance.

I already had CC-sized revolvers and autos in every common caliber except 45acp. If the ammo situation is going to keep fluctuating, it seems like a good idea to have something in every common caliber.

A picture or it didn't happen. The elusive PT132. I wish it wasn't DAO, but it's still a lot of fun. :)

I'm about 150 rounds into the 200 round break-in period for my new Kahr CW45. So far, not a single malfunction and that's using range ammo and four different brands of hollow points. It seems accurate enough. I'm considering making it a pocket-carry gun to replace my Smith hammerless .38 but so far I haven't found a suitable pocket holster for it. Anyone have any recommendations?
Have you had any problems with light primer strikes? Last summer I had loaded up about a 1,000 rounds and had some that would not fire in the Kahr but worked fine in my Combat Commander.

No, no light primer strikes so far but I'm glad you mentioned it -- were these reloads or a particular brand ammo? The only anomaly I've noted is that the Kahr won't reliably feed the first round if the slide is locked back and I'm using the slide release after inserting the fresh magazine. I need to slingshot it to get it to feed that first round.

These were reloads I had loaded, CCI primers IIRC, I have had luck modifying 1911 mags to work in the Kahr

I carry a Kahr CM45 daily in an Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.5 holster. The only downside is low round count in the pistol....5+1. I also have a 5" Springfield 1911 with Hogue wrap around finger groove grips and the Kahr feels no worse recoil wise than my 1911. I have shot both a bunch so I feel I can give an objective opinion. I do carry an extra 8 round 1911 mag in my back pocket (yes they fit the Kahr) for my reload. Just my 2 cents worth.

Do you modify the 1911 mag? I sand down the left side of the lip to match the Kahr profile.

I didnt have to do anything to mine. I have 2 1911 mags that are just for the Kahr. They both work well in stock form. Maybe I just got lucky.
