Small Carry Gun for under $500

I bought a Walther PK380 a week ago at a gun show for $ 330, it is a nice pistol, but then I saw a Walther PPK/S and had to have it. It's twice the price of the other one. So I have a NIB Walther PK380 for sale for what I paid for it.

Kahr Arms emphatically states that the recoil spring must be replaced after 3,000 rounds. I suggest more frequent change if +P or +P+9mm ammunition is fired

Hotter ammo has nothing to do with recoil spring wear. The number of compressions/decompressions is what wears out recoil springs.

Since most people pay no attention to how many rounds they shoot between recoil spring replacements I give Kahr credit for bringing it to the attention of their customers that their recoil springs need to be replaced before the gun may become unreliable.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The 709 didn't feel good in my hand and there were no CW-9's available. I ended up getting a lightly used PM-9 with the black stainless slide and night sights today. Felt good in my hand with both the standard and extended mags plus it was within my budget.

Another CT shooter, I picked up an M&P9c from 19-3Ben last week and it's a heck of shooter! Don't forget the Kel-Tec PF-9, I picked one up for <$200 this summer. Never heard of Anthony's, when did they open? You mean you didn't buy from Cabela's being that close? ;) I've only seen one gun in there that was priced right, the rest are way out there making their discounts close to Hoffman's prices.

Anthony's Collectibles opened a few months ago. Its on the corner of Old County and Halfway house in Windsor Locks. It is a tiny store but they have good service, decent prices on used guns, really decent prices on ammo and they will order you whatever they don't have plus match Hoffman's. I have bought a GP100 and now a PM9 from there and my dad has bought a Redhawk. It is the only place around I have found cheapish ammo for my .357.

The PPK/S is indeed the Prince of Little Pistols, and you'll never find a nicer gun with regard to fit and finish. It is also unique in that it slips into a crisp single action trigger after the initial double-action pull.

Rather heavy for a pocket gun, but a beautiful pistol to live with.

I am not a fan of Kahr's products and do not trust them for self defense. I have had one that went back to Kahr 3 times for light strikes. I have been reading a lot of posts regarding Kahr pistols and light strike problems lately as well. Might be worth checking out before you ake the decision. Also, the grip on the CW9 is pretty long and I found that it printed much worse than my G33 (same size as G26/27).

There was also a suggestion above for the Polish Radom P64. While these are great guns there are no parts available for them whatsoever. Several people have had problems with the safety/decocker breaking and there are none to be had so you end up with a paperweight. I had one for a while and it was easy to carry but if I can't get parts for it I am not going to invest time in to training with it.

I like the size and weight of the Keltec P11 and have had great luck with one that I summer carried for 10 years. If you have a little more cash to play with an HK P7 is a great thin carry gun. The PPS is awesome as well but those run about $550-$600 around here.

I have a Kahr K9 from the earliest production and it has never failed to function with any kind of ammo.

I also have a PM9 and though not as old as the K9, it too is rock solid with every brand of ammo I have used.

What do you use to carry the PM9?

I just took a picture of my Super Fly with my PM9. It has a flap that attaches with velcro and can be placed on either side incase you want to break the outline of the pistol. This holster absolutely will not move in your pocket or come out with the pistol when you draw.

Thanks for the pictures, that looks pretty cool as well as functional. . I had a few "gift card" dollars to burn at the local Cabela's. They had very little that fit a PM9 correctly. I looked for the SuperFly but all they had was the Nemesis and not in the correct size. I spent 11.99 on an Uncle Mike's Pocket Holster size 4. It absolutely prints in my pants pockets but disappears in my leather jackets inside pockets. I figure an immediate way to carry is better than not carrying.

I am probably going to order the SuperFly from Desantis's website if I can't come upon one around here. I am also looking into a good IWB holster but all the maker's are eight weeks out. In the meantime I will probably get something cheaper for that too.

I have one for my PPKs, LCP and just ordered one for a new Beretta 21a just for practicing the draw from this holster.

I have a pocket holster from pocketholsters.com for my LCP. Primo pocket holster! But, it's pricey.

I also have a IWB holster from Tactical-store.com for my Glock G36. Approximately $18 shipped. Nice and snug fit with a mongo clip that you almost need a pry bar to get off.

I've only been carrying the G36 IWB for a few days, but I can tell that with a little more practice, it'll get to where I won't even notice it. If I can do that with a G36, it should be cake for a PM9.

I bought the BW-HT-BAFAAD-73IP06BK from Tactical-Store.com. It's fits as if the holster was made for the G36. A bonus that I wasn't expecting is the end is sewn shut as a good holster should. It's nylon and well made. The nylon is higher on the back side so that the only part of the gun against your skin is the grip; no metal. Oh, and the holster is snug enough it does not need a strap, which IMO is one less thing I don't want to have to worry about in an SD situation.

I wasn't sure if IWB was for me, so didn't want to pay much for the holster. I read a favorable review of this holster here

and figured it was worth an $18 shot. So far I couldn't be happier.

Sorry for the thread hijack.....

For my small gun I use a Bersa Thunder .380 single stack. It's a little large to pocket carry but I have a Sig Tactical Jacket with a hidden inside pocket holster that secures it nicely. There are also good IWB holsters for that size gun that virtually make them disappear under light clothing (ie. t shirt and shorts). These guys seem to make a good holster for the Bersa/Walther PPK size gun http://www.ubgholsters.com/iwb.htm

My biggest thing is that the gun only ran me $200 used with only one magazine ran through it.

I have a Bersa and it's a fine gun, but IMO much to large for pocket carry.
Here is my Bersa next to for example my P-3AT which fires the same round as the Bersa but in a much, much smaller package.
