My buddy bought a bunch of Wolf a few months ago when nothing else was available. His SIG .40 will not fire about one out of twenty. They do fire on the second strike. He has had not other trouble with light strikes on other brands of primers or factory ammo. He gave me 1000 to try and they work fine with my S&W revolver.

Like zxcvbob said, if they fire on the second strike your buddy probably isn't seating them deep enough. He probably isn't used to Wolf primers because they are new to him so he doesn't realize they aren't bottomed. A reliable second strike ignition is the classic sign of a primer that isn't bottomed. The first strike bottoms the primer and the second sets it off.

Dear zxcvbob and ArchArngelCD,

Thanks very much for the advice. I just e-mailed it to my friend. Hopefully that will fix the prob for him.

I use Remingtons. They are all I have ever used because I only started reloading in April. I like the packaging and they seem to be the easiest to find at the local box store. They alway work and seat easy for me.

I like CCI . They are made in the USA and work great.

I've tried winchesters but I like the silver CCI's better:D

In todays world, I like whatever I can buy. So far CCI, Remington and Winchester have done great for me.

Try a back pack..it works pretty well. My wife looks too, but the ole addage "outta sight...outta mind" works well here!!

I scored a brick of Wolf Small Rifle primers for $37 at the gun show yesterday, its a good thing too. I had everything else to get started loading .223, just needed the primers. I'm ok with the $37 price.

I started with CCI in SP, LP, and LP Magnum, and still use them. Then I tried Winchester LP because they said they could be used with H110 and W296. They worked well, so I tried some Winchester LR, which also worked well. I recently found some Federal SP and tried them. And now I've got some Wolf in SP, LP, SR, and SR Magnum.

The end result is, with all these different primers, I've never had a primer fail to fire. I must be living on luck...

I would never sneak primers into my house, that's strictly for new guns!
I hate it when the basement window sticks though.
Has anybody chronographed the difference between mag and standard primers in any brand with a given load?

Sounds like your Old Lady is a hard ass. Another reason why Im not married.
That's harsh, he just doesn't want her to go out and buy new clothes cause he got primers. The only reason I'm not married is I'm ugly as hell.
Anyway, I've never had any primer not fire. Federal, CCI. Magtech, Remington, Wolf Winchester, I use the oldest first and they're all good.

I just did in a couple loads I sent thru my XDm 9mm. I'm getting ready to hit the hay so I'll dig out the results and try and get em posted tomorrow. I was surprised though as it didn't really increase velocity but it did improve the consistency of the velocity from shot to shot.

Good night.
