I suppose this is the 'middle of the road' position ...

And the entire article ignores the whole DNA-matching part of the statement:

Joe Biden: Build ‘James Bond-Style’ Guns That Don’t Fire Without DNA Match:

If I get elected president of the United States of America with your help, if that happens, guns, we have the capacity now in a James Bond-style to make sure no one can pull a trigger unless their DNA and fingerprint is on it. We have that capacity to do it now. You know it. But what happens? The gun manufacturers, when two folks started to sell some of those guns to two dealerships, they said we’re going to shut you down. My god, we don’t have to worry about the 2nd Amendment. Imagine all the people who would be alive today if the only person who could buy a gun is qualified because of background checks and they’re the only ones that can pull the trigger? So my point is there are so many things we have the capacity to do.

Four things Biden left out: 1. The “smart gun” in this case was radio-activated by a watch that was paired with the gun. This means anyone who stole the gun and the bracelet could shoot the firearm with no problem. 2. The gun was only made in .22 LR and costs $1,800. 3. The “smart gun” in this case was defeated by a man armed with $15 worth of magnets. 4. Considering all these failures, consumers feared a law in New Jersey would trigger a requirement that dealers could only sell “smart guns,” thereby forcing consumers to purchase an $1,800, radio-activated .22 LR pistol that had been defeated by a guy with a pocket full of magnets.

I couldn't find any statements by other candidcates on smart guns but I wouldn't be surprised if some were forthcoming

Well, it's ok that Joe is not a thinker, but he smiles a lot that exactly what the ones that will be "pulling strings" want.

How does he plan to have a gun "read" the owner's D. N. A.???? Install a tricorder in the grip?

It takes time and lab tests to match dna. It can take hours to establish a familial link and weeks if it has to be an exact person I. D.
Biden has been watching too many hollywierd C. S. I. nonsense.

The kind of "smart guns" that Biden is talking about are technically impossible, or impractical. To the extent he's going down this blind alley, he's keeping his mind off other, more pernicious, things.

He's acting as if he already has the nomination locked up, and he's in general election mode. He may get a few surprises between now and then.

''Joe Biden told an audience...''
Who exactly was the audience? He has been drawing record low #s of...oh wait, here!

"Smart politician" is an oxymoron.
Like idiot-savants, successful politicians are good at one thing -- getting votes. They don't have to know anything about anything else. It's a mistake to hold them accountable in any technical area, such as guns. They simply don't live in that universe. (They have staff to supply the details on technical matters.)

The reason they get votes is that the public is as ignorant as they are.

Here we go again with hollywood "facts". I swear that every anti gun politician literally get's all their information from action movies. And when I say literally, I mean it.
