I just received the ISD automatic scale/dispenser. It only dispensed one time, now it turns off when I try to do a test run. Has anyone else had this issue? I have removed the powder and am just trying to get to trickle, but nothing. Is this a common failure?

I would immediately contact the vendor you bought it from as Smartreloader has some interesting warranty stipulations - http://www.smartreloader.com/returns-policy-ezp-1.html?language=en&chapter=0

I hope you bought your product from a reputable vendor because personally, I find their return/exchange policy to suck big time. I mean, what's the shipping charge to send anything to Italy? Are you kidding me?!

And if your product was damaged or is defective after you used the product, read the section on returning damaged/defective products below. I hope you are sitting down.

If you are not satisfied with a product, you may return it to us within 30 days of receipt for an exchange, replacement or refund.

:

Smartreloader.com takes every precaution to ensure your merchandise will arrive in new, complete and intact condition. However, shipping accidents occasionally occur.

Do not return items damaged during shipping to Smartreloader.com. We are not responsible for freight/shipping damage, and cannot assist you with your claim.

Inspect your order immediately and completely while your delivery driver is present. If you discover any freight/shipping damage, please do not email Smartreloader.com. Have your delivery driver note the damage in writing and contact the delivering company to file your claim. They will take the necessary steps to reimburse you. If you do not follow this procedure, the carrier may not honor your claim and the loss will become your sole responsibility.
Really? How many of you actually get to see your delivery drivers? So what are you supposed to do when you get home after work and find that the delivery person left the box by your door and the product inside was damaged?:banghead:

I wouldn't give you a plug nickel for "Smartreloader" gear. Had their digital scale that didn't even last a month, and was not at all very accurate according to my Redding beam scale. I would stick with Lyman, Hornady, RCBS, etc.

Oh my goodness. That has to be the worst return policy Ive ever seen. Must be a Euro thing. I dont think a company could get away with that here for long.

Inspect your order immediately and completely while your delivery driver is present.

Uhh, kind of hard when they leave it on the porch. My UPS guy is like a vapor trail. I mean he's outa the truck, back in the truck and gone before i can get off the couch to get the door.

You will find a thread about that scale system here on THR where it gets mixed reviews.

You are sure you are doing everything correctly for the setup?

Visit on the Smartreloader TV Channel the iSD Video Tutorials!?

Scroll down the linked page for the Videos. Maybe they will help if you haven't tried all of that already.

Haven't had any issues with mine. Its been working good for over a year. It's not the most user friendly thing to operate though and the manual pretty well sucks. I looked up some videos on YouTube to see how to program it for dump speed and trickle finish to get precisely repeatable loads.

Never had the problem you're describing. Like most other electronic scales, I let it warm up for about 10 minutes to stabilize and then calibrate.

I programmed in a dozen pet loads and for everything else I enter a desired weight in and just push dispense. Not sure how, or even if the trickle works in relation to anything but for setting up the program. You can probably use it for individual unprogrammed loads, but I haven't really tried to yet. Not even sure if you can just dispense while watching the scale to manually hit a target weight.

You don't see Smartreloader bad-mouthed on this forum. People here generally tend to simply ignore that company.

My UPS guy is a Ninja in disguise, I never hear or see him. That warranty wouldn't work with anyone I know.

I have never or ever will buy anything that has to do with smartreloader.

They are the Amerc of the reloading equipment industry. The last time I looked at their Digital Dispenser it cost more than I paid for my Hornady Auto Charge.

I think they dont like knocking, or dont like to risk possibly having to do the small talk thing. Most of my guys dont even knock I dont think...or it's just a tiny little drive by knock.

Thanks for all the replies. I went with RCBS 1500 Charge Master through Midway because Midway backs their items and backup is RCBS. I think I will use two Lyman funnel pans so I can have one loading while using the other. Have read that I will probably have to attach a washer to the bottom (and make sure both weigh the same).

You got yourself a good machine that will last you a long time from one of the best reloading machine manufacturers out there.

You just bought the best of the best from the best.

If I'm looking for a "value brand" for general reloading tools I buy Frankford Arsenal. The FA tumbler that replaced a very old and loud Lyman has worked great and was a lot cheaper than the competition. The FA digital scale works well too and it was only 20 bucks on sale from midway. I also have one of their kinetic bullet pullers that works just as well as the other brands.

I agree

If you have to pat your self on the back ahead of time to sell your product you are to be avoided IMHO.:scrutiny: If someone came out with Tasty brand snacks that cost substantially less would you buy a pile without sampling first?? I think that a lot of reloading snobs that bash LEE products feel that it is possibly an inferior product as well. Lee has proved itself to me and many other reloaders while Smart Reloader often seems to get poor reviews FWIW. It all comes down to the Cadillac vs Ford vs Dodge vs GM vs Yugo argument to me. One buys what quality they can afford to get the job done and hope it is robust.

I can't speak for anyone else's experience, but mine was worth the money. It is not intuitively easy to use, but it does essentially the same job as any other automatic dispenser. I had to spend an hour learning how to program it online and haven't had any issues yet. At the time I purchased it, the Smartreloader version was almost exactly half the price of other available competing systems and was well worth the hour I needed to spend getting to know and understand it.

I will say that I didn't do enough research in that I didn't know at the time that there was actually a U.S. manufactured brand available. In researching all those I knew about, all were made overseas. I've since learned (only through this forum) about the PACT system. I would have bought one of them if I was even aware of its existence at the time. But I have no regrets about the Smartreloader - it has been giving me quick, reliable, and repeatable loads.

420 Stainless, if you are anywhere near a maximum load I would definitely double check with a reliable beam scale. The Smart Reloader system I had was consistently low by anywhere from .5 of a grain to a whole 1.0 grains. I seriously doubt you can beat RCBS, even if the cost is double, beats the heck out of waling around with the bolt in your forehead.

I've checked my scale with other references. Been spot on. Not at all worried about having a bolt planted in my head unless I make the mistake. Anyone who fully trusts their scale without getting it calibrated or at least checking it against another periodically is at risk of having it out of tolerance regardless of the mechanism or the brand. Fortunately, I have precision scales at work that are at my disposal to confirm with.

Has there been an event or recall that I'm not aware of?

loose noose, thank you for sharing your personal experience and making me aware to be cautious. I will take heed and keep an eye on my scale, but have had no problems to date.
