What will be my S&W 3913 replacement single stack 9
Smith and Wesson is discontinuing the 3rd gen series. I have a 3913 that I have owned, shot and carried for over 10 years. I guess my question is what will I replace it with if the time comes. I realize alot of the following comes from years of ownership but. I find when I grab my 3913 my hand is there on the grip. There being the sweet spot. I assume I will prefer a single stack. When I draw my Glock 26 I have to roll my hand around and find myself sweeping myself. I find my 3913 accurate, comfortable, reliable, easy to carry and easy to shoot. I wonder what else out there will be similar in size and function. I like the DA/SA but its not mandantory. I find I prefer DA revolvers over SA so a DAO on this wouldnt be a no sale. I would prefer under $500.00 and it doesnt have to be new. I am fine with and actually prefer 9mm

I would not worry about that question until the time comes since the 3913 is pretty darned rugged.

However, that Kimber Solo looks quite promising. Im going to rent that little guy as soon as it becomes available to do so. I like the lines of it as it reminds me of a Colt Pocket Hammerless.

Walther PPS might be a good option too.

Sig 239 will probably come closest yet though.

The Kimber is going for a little above 700 I guess. They Walther and Sig can be had for at or under 500 if you go used.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just maintain your 3913 and keep carrying it. Problem solved.

+1 -- and since the 3913 shares many components with the 6906, spare parts should be had for some time to come.

I also have both a 3913 and a G26 -- look into getting the GAP floorplates for the G26's 10-round mags, I find that they help me get a good grip on the first try.

In addition to the SIG P239, take a look at Kahr since they have single-stack 9mm pistols in 8+1, 7+1 and 6+1 configurations (albeit they're DAO striker-fired pistols). They should feel and handle pretty similarly to the 3913.

Russian Makarov. No problems. I believe a member on THR (M2 Carbine?) put one through a durability test (filled with mud, greased it and froze, etc.), put 1000 rnds thru it, and only had one problem due to so much mud that the firing pin didnt make contact with the primer ( If my memory serves me right). Ive owned one for over 5 years and is my prized pistol ( I own a Beretta 92fs, Sig p2022, and Tanfoglio Witness as well). ITs 9x18 which is a little bigger than a 9mm para. One drawback is that it holds only 8 rnds, but its single stack ;) . DA/SA decocking safety. The safety also locks the slide, hammer, and trigger. I saw one last weekend at the gun show for $300 OTD.

I expect your S&W 3913 will last a long time. If you're that worried about longevity, go ahead and pick up another 3913 (or 3914 or 908) for a spare. Failing that, take a look at the Kahr K9. It literally replaced my S&W 3913, and that was well before the Smith was worn out. My 3913 was the sort of pistol I'd assumed I'd not part with any time soon, but the Kahr made me rethink that.

As for the Makarov, they're good in their own right, but I hardly see one as a replacement for a S&W 3913. There's a good bit of difference between a 9mm Luger and 9x18 Makarov cartridge, and there's also a big difference as to how the two pistols operate. Yes, they're both a single-stack in 9mm caliber, but there are also significant differences between the two.

I have a 3913, the NL version, and know what you are saying about the fit. Why not just buy another? You can still find them in like new condition. Also Smith-Wesson still makes an enconomy version of the 3914 and 3913 in the 908 (Blued) and 908S (SS).

HK P7 is another option as well.

They will be a little north of your 500 but well worth it and will only continue to appreciate in value. Kind of a different manual of arms though.

I think the obvious answer would be the Kahr CW9 or the even smaller new CM9. Like the Gen 3 S&W guns they are reliable and accurate...plus they have a great trigger pull, like a S&W K-frame

Even more obvious is buy one or two "spare" 3913's. They are not hard to find and don't cost that much..............yet.

I'm in the "get a spare 3913" camp as well. I think the Kahr K9 is probably the closest gun on the market in current production, but its not exactly the same.

I carry a 3953 (the DAO version of the 3913) and I'm on the hunt for the right deal on a spare 3953 just in case mine eventually wears out.

IMO it is premature at this time to talk about retiring or replacing it. S&W should have parts and service for these guns for some years to come. Many parts also interchange with other similar models. I would not worry unless and until those dry up. You can always get another as a spare, if you wish. In fact, if this is your only defensive handgun, I always recommend that you have something (even if it is not an exact match) for a replacement.

JIC I would get a SIG P239, or at least give it a try, mine retired a S&W 39-2. Ain't as pretty as the Smith but it's not a beauty contest.

I am a believer in having an exact spare of one's favored carry gun.

I also echo those who say to keep using your 3913. Springs should be available for decades, for replacement every 3000 rounds.

If the SIG P229 were to be discontinued tomorrow, I would keep carrying mine. I have half a dozen of them, and probably cannot afford enough ammo to wear out even one of them, much less all six.

Yup, there are lots of spare part out there to keep your 3913 running indefinitely. But, if you want to work with something else just in case I'd really recommend the STI LS9 if you can live with a subcompact 1911 style pistol. Another pistol that I find to be very similar to how my 3913 shoots is the SIG 239.
