I don't find the 4" to be too long of a bbl. for a "K" frame at all,

Just picked up a nice S&W 19-4 w/ 2 1/2" bbl and covobela grips. It is pinned and recessed. A little worn mark on left underside tip of barrel. Nice little shooter.
been looking over the net trying to find out when it was made but no luck. The SN# is 27K1xxx. Any ideas out there on the mfg date??

According to the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson, K frame serial numbers for 1978/1979 ran from 25K0001 through 56K9999. That coincides with the engineering change for the 19-4 which moved the gas ring from the yoke to the cylinder in 1978. Model 19-5 eliminated the counter bored cylinder and pinned barrel in 1982.

Here is a photo of my Model 19-3, that I bought brand, spanky new in 1975.
