Smith & Wesson M&P .45

I've had my full size .45 M&P for quite a while now and can't be more happier with a handgun. Recoil is mild, it's very forgiving of various handloads I throw down it, and it's a breeze to break down and clean. I've now fired about 5,000 rounds through it, with almost no trouble whatsoever.
Also picked up a compact 9mm M&P, it's a sweet little carry pistol, too. But, had a chance to trade it in on a Marlin .357 that I just couldn't pass up.

It had the worse trigger of any pistol I have ever owned. S&W is also having major problems with broken strikers on the M&P's.
All in all, I thought the M&P was junk.
That problem was resolved about two years ago with the issue of a redesigned striker assembly.

I love my M&P9 pro. With the .45s, an old girlfriend of mine had an M&P45 compact, without the retarded thumb safty or magazine safety, and it was very enjoyable to shoot. It seemed like it was perfect size. It was reliable & accurate as well. I think I miss her guns more that her 8)

The M&P .45 was my very first firearm!:D And I couldn't be any happier with it. It is a breeze to shoot and very very accurate. I love the feel in my hand and it has a trigger job which is just a small screw on the back of the trigger to eliminate any over travel, it is fantastic. I don't see any problems with my M&P that other people have with reliability and stuff. It's a top quality pistol from the best IMHO.

I've had to make myself take a couple of my 1911's out of the safe and run a few hundred rounds through them in recent months. I just enjoy shooting the M&P 45 ...

Blasphemy!!:neener:

I owned one of these for a while. I think they are awesome guns and to mee it has less felt recoil than a full size 1911. I got rid of it because a 1911 is easier for me to conceal, however, I think I will be buying another one in the near future.

I called Apex last week, left a voice mail with questions, and their response was within two hours. Randall Lee told me about the videos for the sear and striker bar replacement, and was very encouraging about how easy it would be to do.

I did the Apex Tactical trigger job on my M&P 45 today. New 45 hard sear and Ultimate Striker Block and i polished the trigger bar. I am amazed at the difference. Smooth as silk, around 4#, very little over travel and an almost instant reset.

Why pay shipping to Burwell (who, by the way, has yet to respond to any of my emails requesting a slot for a trigger job - business must be good), or lose the use of the pistol for weeks, when this is available and very simple. I have compared my Apex trigger to an M&P Burwell job and I could not see any advantage to Burwell.

Just one opinion.

M&P is NOT junk

Funny how some of us form an opinion based on emotion, full moon, high humidiy, too many or not enough beers... vs knowledge. True story: My brother works with a guy that was a Navy SEAL for >17 years. He also was combat experienced. The M&P 45 ACP was his weapon of choice. Now THAT"S an endorsement.... based on knowledge and WAY above average shooting skills. He couldn't say enough good things about it. I bought one...and love mine. Accurate as all hell. The trigger is much different than my 1911 and Beratta 92...but I like it very much. It;s now my choice of carry.

Eh...there's also those who think that anything other than a Glock is not worth your time and money but these opinions are only annoying if they are not ignored. Perhaps there's an intimidation factor involved somewhere haha. The M&P line has had problems as every other pistols have though I've yet to see an picture of an exploded M&P. ;-) However, Smith has worked out most of the kinks in the line leaving nothing short of a ridiculously accurate, reliable, and comfortable pistol. Congrats on the purchase of a firearm that will serve you well for years.

I have a M&P 45 compact that has been a great pistol. I also have a M&P9c and M&P40. These are nice pistols, reliable accurate shooters. Compared to my Glocks they are about even. I shoot my G21 slightly better than the M&P, but I think that is due to trigger time on the G21 vs M&P. I've hear the Apex sear is a good upgrade, but don't have personal experience with it.

The trigger is not bad...different is what I said. It's just a heavier pull than my Beretta and Springfield. I actually like the trigger the more I use it and don't mind the heavier pull probably because it's so accurate. My 15 y/o boy asked why I liked a heavier trigger pull like I was crazy.I put a snap cap in for him and allowed him to get a feel for the weapon several days before we went to the range. He wasn't sure he liked it until we both went to the range and shot it. He now loves the M&P !! It's his favorite handgun. My whole point is that it comes down to what the operator prefers. I don't believe any Major gun manufacturer makes much junk these days. It's the old Ford vs Chevy arguement...they are just different...not junk.

Thank you Speaksoftly. Your right...I left out reliable and comfortable. That thing fits my hand like it was made for me..and me only. Also ate everything I fed it.

Wow, that flies in the face of every one that I have sold and I sell a lot of M&Ps.

It is extreemly far from the worst trigger.

I've never seen a problem with the gun at all. They function extreemly well.

Have asked my salesman at Davidson's (they sell boat load of guns and warranty them unlike any other distributor but trading out any gun that doesn't work), he said he has never warrantied an M&P. Soooooo much for the "major problems" comment.

They are selling boatloads because it's a quality weapon. What I really like is that the slide "slides" on metal to metal and feels very smooth like only metal can do. Very much like the Beretta as far a racking the slide back. not to mention that it shoots teeny tiny groups. ;)

Here's my tupperware 45 acp experence. Bought a Springfield HD 45 because I liked the 1911 style grip safety and read great press about them.
Well mine had FTF & FTE problems with all types of ammo and I did not realize that the grip safety also locked the slide which I found unhandy.

Contacted Springfield about problems and they were great about repair service and turnaround time, however they stated on a note to use nothing but ball ammo in my gun. Tried out gun and still had problems, I also decided being limited to ball ammo in a modern defense gun unacceptable.

I bit the bullet and accepted a small loss, and traded the Springfield in on a S&W, M&P 45 FS, and am I happy!

The S&W M&P 45 will eat any ammo it is fed, including light LSWC reloads.
It fits me way better, and is by far more accurate. As far as the trigger issue goes, yes it was gritty and had a hard pull but if used as a duty gun probably would be OK. I like to do a lot of plinking so orded the Apex drop-in parts (they are great to deal with by the way) and now the trigger is close to a good 1911 trigger.

The S&W, M&P 45 is one of my favorite guns now and I have a safe full to choose from.

I love my M&P .45

I wish it held more, but i trust my life to a 7rd 1911 .45 so the M&P is good with me. Its also the trade off for a proper sized grip IMO. Sure you could fit more but then it just gets so big..

the M&P is a gentle giant and i love it. In fact, i have a full set of M&P's in my collection minus the new "PRO" series... but most of mine have been upgraded with Apex system :)

JOe

I bought one on a whim. Feels great in the hand, Added the Apex DCAEK. Trigger is better, but nowhere close to my old Glock 30. And, while accurate, at least in my hands, I always do better with the Glock or my 1911. Tried various factory loads as well as 185, 200 and 230 grain handloads with 6 different powders. It always finishes third, not by a lot, mind you, but always third place. Will probably trade it if something interesting comes along.
