Hey all,

I was at the reloading supply store the other day, and the guy behind the counter tells me, "Have you heard of the new Feinstein 'sniper rifle' ban?" I look at him, sort of jaded to all the gun bad BS we deal with in Kali these days, and ask him if he's referring to the 50 BMG ban. Turns out, he says no, this is something new, on the federal level no less. Then he tells me that the rifle I had with me was the primary target, and that this bad would target "sniper rifles" the same way Feinstein went after the infamous "assault weapons." He said it would be based on a point system, except now "evil" features included a detachable 5+ round magazine, a barrel with a diameter greater than 9/16", the attachement of a telescopic sighting device with greater than 4x magnification, and a couple other features I couldn't remember. The scum bags will probably use the DC sniper shootings as justification... bastards. Anyway, has anyone else heard of this and/or have any additional information? I feel as if I'm in a constant battle... a war... with these walking obscenities we've elected, and I want to keep a close watch on all of their latest underhanded attempts to disarm us. Thanks in advance.

It'll definitely get the varmint hunters to notice.

IIRC, the DC snipers actually had a holo sight. And no heavy barrel.

Feinstein is just pure evil as far as RKBA is concerned.

Could this just be something she's pitching for the Kali legislature to pick up and find a sponsor?

Probably one of those bills that are introduced, and never get out of, committee. We never hear about them. They seem to have one every other session that outlaws guns totally, or bans anyone from storing ammo or makes gun shows illegal. A member can introduce all the bills they want, the ones with absolutely no political chance just die ignored. Thank God.

Fineswine is a pure evil headline grabber. Kiss your sporterized 10/22 goodbye if you don't fight this one.

There is nothing in the U.S. House or Senate Clerks databases besides the 50 cal ban and the "Sniper Act" in response to the DC sniper. I think this might be a rumor or something.

Although this sounds like excessive rumor-mongering, and maybe even a sinister plot for this gun dealer to get the "not my guns" crowd worked up about gun control .... a part of me wishes something like this would get drafted and passed.

It would speed things up a little. It would open alot of people's eyes. It would make it a little harder for SCOTUS to avoid taking a 2A case.

Or it could have been a very well contrived pressure sale to get you to purchase that little rifle you were holding before "they" go ahead and ban it.

That's what I HOPE it was anyway because a "sniper rifle" ban?

Good GOD! What a crock.

You want to get worked upped? Check out HR899 and HR900 from the lovely Jerrold Nadler (D-NY). Handgun licensing and handgun registration respectively, they also contain provisions to require liability insurance to own a handgun. Luckily it looks as if it is being passed from committee to committee, and will die. This guy must be from Canada or something, or wants to make here like Canada.

hmmm,

you guys bring up a good point, it could just be rumor mongoring, with a hidden agenda behind it all. However, at least as far as the guy I was talking to is concerned, it was not to make more sales; he only sells reloading equipment and books as his store doesn't have an FFL. However, he could have heard it from one of his gun store-owning buddies, who knows. Next time I talk to him I'll try to get more specific info... I've done a lot of seaching for information on this proposed "law" and haven't found anything yet.

iirc, that's part of the "new and improved" version of the AWB that's going to be put down in the house. imo, it's not really anything to worry about right now, but vigilance is always a good thing.

I agree. It's part of the new awb. The "No fixed magazines above 5 rounds" is straight from the text.

This rifle that was in your hands wasnt by any chance a rifle he was trying to sell you was it?

Back during the height of the D.C. "sniper" scare, UpChuck Schumer did go on TV yelling and screaming for just this kind of a bill.

The bill was never, to my knowledge, actually written down. But UpChuck Schumer did appear on televison with scary pictures of scary scoped bolt-action rifles yelling how civilians had no business owning such accurate, powerful rifles that were obviously made as assassination tools.

No one needed a 20 power scope and a super accurate rifle for deer hunting, etc.

There was official talk from official sources of legislation like that.

c_yeager,

This rifle that was in your hands wasnt by any chance a rifle he was trying to sell you was it?

He answered that question five posts before yours. ;)

The guy at the store may have been misinformed, speculative or paranoid, but apparently not for mercenary reasons.

I have heard rumors of this type of legislation for a couple years now. It is truely scarey and another reason for gun people to ban together for gun people. Not worrying as much Hunter, collector, varmiter, etc... All guns seen to be endangered!

and the "Sniper Act" in response to the DC sniper.

*Old Man Voice* Eh? What's that ya say?"

I know that new AWB additions also specifically mentioned Bushmaster by name.

Biggest reason I bought my Varminter as soon as I had the cash last January. I was almost certain there would be somekind of Excutive ORder or rushed out law banning AR15s.

I plan on trying to get at least one more ARs, or a couple uppers before Sept.

(Yes, I write my congress reps...and I vote.)
