Snub Nose 45 Colt ???

Hi shoot2kill,

That is one lovely old Colt.

I would not change anything about it.

Mine, was pitted and had been roughly sanded on, and did not have a mellow honest 'patina' on it, or I would have left it be, even if maybe still going the modifications I did, if it had been mellow and 'grey' I would have left that be, and not re-blued it.

Recoil wise, mine is kinda hefty...seems to me anyway ( or to others who have shot it ).

I need to re-load for mine deferentially though, I just realized recently, since the Barrel Bore and Cylinder Bores are too large for .45 ACP as it usually is.

So...fatter Bullets for this one!

Would it be possible to have a model 25 chopped up to look similar to these 625-11's?! How about a 629 PC snubbie in 44 mag refitted to 45 Colt?!

What would be more efficient?! More plausible?!

I remember those. They did it with the 327 as well (still available).

For those considering the .45ACP to .45 colt conversion, S&W made a run of .45 colts with a cylinder the legnth of an ACP cylinder. M25-3. They work fine except with some ammo OAL was a problem. That's why they eventually made the 25-5 in .45 Colt. If you can find a 25-3 cylinder you can have it fit to your existing 25/625 and have interchangable cylinders to shoot both ACP and Colt ammo.

Goodtime,

Thanks for the link! Colt has their sheriff/storekeeper models too. They are nice, but I'm thinking DA. My SA will be a Colt SAA with a 5.5" barrel.

I did load up some trial .45 Colt Cartridges for mine...mostly Black Powder, some '777', and, some using 10 Grains of 'Unique' and a 230 Grain 'SEACO' Full Wadcutter.

Clocked like 840-0dd FPS with the latter, which is not bad for a 2 inch Barrel.

I got scolded a little bit for this by wiser Heads, who felt my loading was a little too 'peppy'.

I pointed out, it was still at or below .45 ACP pressures, even if in a .45 Colt Cartridge, as the Revolver itself was intended for .45 ACP.

Nice recoil and report though! I really liked that loading...and I aspire to duplicate it's performance once onto loading .45 ACP for it.

The "SAECO" Bullets are about .453 and soft...so I imagine they behaved well.

Anyway, even though the .45 Colt Cartridges will chamber in mine's Tapered Bores, I will not re-load anything peppey with them anymore.

But, I will go onto seeing what I can do with .45 ACP Cases, or cut down .30-'06 Cases, and chubby Bullets...using Full Moon Clips.

I love a .45 DA 'Snubby' of any Make.

And with full, soft Wadcutters, I believe it would be a very respectable Carry and SD outfit, especially with healthy Loadings.

If you decide to carry a Ruger Alaskan, you might as well go for one of these bad boys. It's lighter and will handle anything short of the +P Buffalo Bore heavies. Cheaper too. Joe

I just wish that Marlin made a '94 or '95 in .454 Casull.

If you can live w/ the 1892 design, Puma offers a sweet little carbine in .454/.45lc. (at least they did, rumor has it they quit making them last January) I got mine as a companion for my own .454 Alaskan and love them both. Slickest little lever gun I have ever owned. Just had the double action trigger worked over by Wild West Guns on the Alaskan and will hopefully have time to try it out this weekend. 6 rounds of .454 on the hip and 10 more in the little carbine can make one a bit overconfident in bear country ;)

I do not know what happened, but the old M1917s did not used to be 93 years old!!!

They used to just be 'Used Guns'.

Lol...

Eeeeesh...

When I was in my teens, there were still a zillion WWI Vets around. Wearing their 'Gott Mit Uns' Belt Buckles, mowing their Lawns with Push Mowers with their sleeves rolled up and a Pall Mall dangling from their mouth, and just living normal lives like anyone.

Ohhhhh, tempus fugit

What you heard is correct, they ain't makin 'em any more. When I heard they went out of production I hit every distributor I could find and bought up all I could find. (grand total of 10). Pity ... only "new" gun I've ever been able to make any money on. Have one myself fitted with a Skinner rear peep sight ... love it.
