642, OWB in a Simply Rugged at about 3:30-4 o'clock. It's so short an untucked shirt or jacket and it's unnoticeable.

Carry mine at 10:00-11:00 in belt clip holster for cross draw. Perfect position while in the driver's seat.
Pocket or belly band
When I carried a j-frame S&W as my off duty gun, I either carried it in an old Thad RYBKA pocket holster or in a belly band. Both concealed well, as long as you did not try to wear some clothes that were too tight.
The belly band worked, but was not that comfortable and was slower than the pocket holster to draw.
I have since switched to semi-auto's for off duty carry and my GLOCK 42 rides in a GALCO Pocket holster.

To me my I frame seems significantly smaller than my J frames.
My favorite carry is a lightweight alloy-framed snub which is hammerless or has a shrouded hammer. I always use a pocket holster.
If I am not going to be sitting, I very much like to carry in a back pocket with a shirt tail hanging down over it - that is a quick and easy draw. Coat pocket is also nice.

You will find as many answers as people because everybody is shaped differently and have different needs.
I pocket carry in a cheap pocket holster rarely. Can't draw from seated or if you get knocked down.
Favorite is 642 in bianchi leather clip holster at 2 o'clock. Further back it sticks out on my lack of butt and love handles. Didn't like the idea off gun being possibly exposed behind me at gas station line etc.
Once you get used to a gun being that close to your groin it's perfect. Can reach it while driving and easy to hide with t shirt up front.
Have prolly 5 holsters for j frame, the above are just the best for me

Pocket carry my 642-1 in a Mika or Uncle Mike's #3. When I'm in the truck I remove it from my pocket and stuff it between the seat cushions. I have a Mika for a G26 and carry it the same way.
I have carried J-frames by shoulder, owb hip, pocket, and ankle.
My J-frames now primarily serve as my backup gun(s) to whatever larger gun I'd be carrying and are now carried either pocket, ankle, or both.
I just remembered, another way I'll carry is on a body armor/vest holster.
