Currently I have a Steyr AUG and a PS90 carbine. I just recently got a S&W M&P 15-22 carbine.. That kinda set me after lusting after an AR (a real one)... Also, it would be nice to have a 5.56 carbine that is lighter than my AUG (my full loaded AUG with my reflex sight and light weighs in at 10lbs).

I have six identical Beretta 92s with night sights and a few other identical mods. As many here know, I am a Beretta nut.. But to pay for an AR, I would have to sell at least two...

Well, this morning I went to the gun show to MAYBE buy an AR... At the gun show... I got... nothing.

For DI, I liked the Daniel Defense ones the best. But not enough to sell two-three Beretta 92s with night sights (that I just got).

I also liked the Sig 516. If I were to buy today, I may have gotten that over my Steyr AUG. However, if I get either later, it'll just have to be saving up for it. I don't wanna sink 3 Berettas out for it. Didn't wanna get it THAT much... It didn't speak to me that way...

Then, a couple hours ago, I was at the local shop - ALMOST bought a new quadrail S&W AR with magpul sights front and rear sights for $1k. So close. I even went back 2x. I just don't wanna sell 2 Berettas... Plus, I'd have to pull my spare Eotech from the 15-22 rifle to put on a new AR... (So, I'd have to get a new optic for it)

I just picked up 3 of those 92s with factory night sights in the past 2 months. All 6 are set up exactly the same. But, I already got rid of one (a 7th one - but it had no night sights) a few weeks ago to get that S&W MP 15-22... I don't think I wanna let 2 more go...

I know they are 6 EXACTLY the same guns. But after a 16 year gun buying odyssey of constantly chasing the next gun while I sell something to cover it... I have my perfect handguns for me... I'm already down from a high of 9 Berettas earlier this year (different variants at that time).

I just can't do it

Plus, I shoot pistols 1-2x a month. I shoot rifles MAYBE 3x a year on a good year. Sometimes 1x a year....

For a lighter carbine, I will settle for the PS90 I suppose... It's a decision I can't win at... I will regret selling two-three guns to get it. Or, I will be lusting after the carbine everytime I go to the gun store :p

Good grief! You must also be a Lethal Weapon fan. Do you like to dual wield?

One vote for the Sig.

I was down to the ARX, Sig 516 and the Steyr AUG a couple months ago. After holding the 22 version of the ARX, it was eliminated. I HATE the A2 grip that Beretta put on the final version of the ARX, and the grip is non replaceable. Also, I don't care for the feel of ARX.

I just spent like 40 min looking at my 92s, and playing with my Aug and that M&P 15-22 as a substitute for an AR.. To decide what I wanna do... I think I'll just hold steady and just keep what I have...

Ick. That is discouraging. Beretta is normally pretty good with ergonomics.

You write as if you can't own an AR unless you sell the Berettas. Have you tried saving to buy the AR? How did you buy the Berettas? Why 6 Berettas? (I don't need an answer for that actually)
My favorite pistol is a Beretta 92A1 with wood grips. I love it but don't need 6 of them.
I just sold a KAHR CM9 to help fund an AR build but the incentive was that I didn't like the long trigger pull on the KAHR. I will replace it with something else for 9mm pocket carry and I won't sell another gun to get the new 9mm.
I am building my first AR incrementally. It will be finished next week and it will be exactly what I want since I chose all the components.
If weight is your thing, I have a KelTec SU16C that with suppressor, red dot and full 20 round mag weighs less than 5.5 pounds.

Saving would be quite some time... I don't have a "gun allowance" anymore with my son in private school. And, extra cash I had was put towards an upcoming vacation... Wife says I can cancel it and get a refund, but I don't really wanna do that to get the $.

But, I scheduled and paid for the trip as I had planned to take a hiatus from always buying guns... Little did I know, huh? :D

To save up the $1500 for a Sig 516 would take me at least two years now..

Anyway, as per the previous post, I've decided to just keep what I have and do without it. I'll get over it soon enough

I know you have made up your mind and decided to keep what you have but as well all know our minds can change. So I will just say DON'T SELL ANYMORE BERETTAS! The wheel is too small as is and needs to be restored to it's former glory!

This morning I considered selling two, and then saving the rest of the money. I could stand to lose two. That gives me my two heavy use ones, one to give to my son when he is older, and a spare. But, I think for now, I am gonna hold off and just keep the 92s.

I went thru this a few years ago when I got a rifle then... But after a while, I will realize again that I just don't shoot my rifles that much. The local indoor pistol range is cooler and closer than driving out of town. Plus, there are no good 50 yard ranges around here anymore. 25 and 100 year is all there is now, and 100 is too far for my eyes to shoot for fun. I can't see it that well (I can hit the target but not in groups). At 50 yards, I do very well.

In the end, there is no good answer, as I will always want the other choice :neener:

Why not sell one or at least put it up for sale for slightly overpriced and start saving towards an AR. If you sell it right away, you'll be all the closer. If it doesn't sell, you can lower the price once you have saved up enough cash to make up the difference. I'm not bashing DD or Sig AR's but your stated frequency of rifle shooting leads me to think those brands are more than would be required. I'd recommend a M&P15 or Colt 6920 for you since they make good AR's from what I've heard. One of these would also limit the saving needed compared to the DD or Sig. Another option is watching for sales on AR parts and building your own. That would allow you to build it exactly as you want it rather than have to change things later on.

Well its apparent you really know what you like so I don't think you should get rid of any of your handguns. I think you should save up and eventually get a complete AR or you can by a complete lower first and purchase the upper half later to spread out cost. Really you will end up with a great rifle either way.

Do you have a need for an AR15?

It doesn't seem like you do, as you already have 3 long guns you mentioned. 6 exact Beretta 92's seem like a lot, but if you really like them I guess that's your choice.

Even if you did sell 2 of the 92's to fund an AR15, you'd still have 4 of them leftover. What can't you do with four92's that you can do with six???

Do you have a need for an AR15?

It's never about need. I don't NEED six handguns, this is true. And, I don't need an AR. But, I WANT one.

But, I went to a lot of trouble gathering those Berettas - all with night sights. I have two shooters/heavy use ones. I plan to give one to my son when he gets older. And, I want at least a spare. So yea, I could live with 4. And, that's sorta what I considered. But for now, will hold onto the other 2. Maybe if I save up the difference, I'll consider selling those 2 and look at this again

Get the AR. Just find a way to do it, whether it is selling a gun or some other unused possession. As I'm not an Aug fan, I'd be eyeing that up for a sale right now. AR's are accurate, modular, and optics are easily mounted on flattops. The basic Colt M4/LE6920 carbine is a great place to star.

here are two i bought two months ago from walmart,1067.00 for the regular 6920 and 1167.00 for the FDE 6920. they may have come down a little since then. eastbank.

Well, I literally got the AUG like 2 months ago. I'm not putting that up for sale. It's very easy to clean and maintain, and it's very useful. I just kinda wanted the SIG 516 too.

I'm still thinking. If I can come up with $300-$400, then I might sell two of the 92 with night sights. We'll see...

You know, when I get the shakes real bad and really want to buy a gun, one of the best things to do is go shoot what you have. Since you haven't had the AUG long, you can't be that familiar with it, go shoot it! Or the 15-22!
Now, I don't think you've said much about the PS90...why do you need or want it? Isn't ammo hard to find right now?

Take the 15-22 to an Appleseed. You'll have fun, learn a lot for not much money, and get really accustomed to the S&W if you aren't already.

I actually had an MSAR AUG a few years ago - so, I am familiar with the platform and shape of the gun. It's just 10 pounds loaded, with an optic and a TRL light. I initially started this search to find a rifle that was maybe 2+ pounds lighter.

I then decided again I don't want DI - which was one of the reasons I got the AUG.

I do love the PS90. I actually had two of them, and sold one a couple months back to buy the AUG. I kept the one with the factory black ring sight, and sold my first one that had an EOtech on it (kept the eotech).

Ammo isn't an issue. Since I had my first one for 6.5 years, I have ammo for it. I like it a lot. I just decided I wanted a 5.56 gun again to have a gun with a longer range and more power. The PS90 IS much lighter than the AUG, though. It weighs in around 7.8 or 7.9 pounds loaded, but it's ALL in the stock, so it feels much lighter.

This will likely just be my lighter alternative to the AUG - I mean, it was the only long gun(s) I had for years (when I had two of them).

Even this morning, I keep going thru this in my head. I would have to sell three to get what I want, and I'd still be a couple hundred short to come up with the $ to buy another Reflex sight like the one on my AUG. I MAYBE could stand to sell 2, but not 3 of my Berettas. Other than my M&P Shield, they are the only handguns I have.

I think I'll just get over it and go shoot my AUG some more next week :p

Shipwreck, just go ahead and bite the bullet.

The only problem is you will have a "Wheel O' ARs" in no time.

Such a Dilemma!

Hey Ship,

Never-ever sell the AUG; it is an awesome rifle. My son has pre-ban one and it is something to behold.

We both have ARs, but there's nothing like the AUG! It just shoots and shoots circles around the ARs.

If you give up two of the 92s, and jump into an AR15 and you don't like it, you will kick yourself forever. Wait it out and fund with with savings here and there. Don't sell something you love! What a great predicament to be in! :D

I am still wrestling with this issue, but I think common sense will prevail

I shoot handguns much more often than rifles. I do have two self defense carbines now. In all likelyhood, if I ever needed to depend myself, it would be with a handgun and not a rifle. I will miss having some of my handguns if I sell 3 - which I would have to do to get what I want. That would ultimately only leave me with 2, as I have plans to eventually give one to my son.

After I shoot my new AUG another couple of times, I probably won't go shoot it again for a year. Why drop $1500 + $450 for another optic (and, I'd have to come up with that extra $). Yes, I WANT it - but why go to all that trouble... It's not like I NEED it...

And, at first this was a goal to get a lighter carbine (lighter than the AUG). Now, it's come back to not wanting the lighter DI - but my original second choice when I got the AUG - a Sig 516... Once I get a 1 pound Mepro reflex sight on it, it ain't gonna be any lighter than the AUG when fully loaded (8oz different between the two guns unloaded)... I don't wanna pull the eotech off my 15-22 carbine afterall...

What is most irritating is that 1/2 way thru typing this post... Thinking I have my mind made up to NOT buy it... And, at the 3rd paragraph mark - I've changed my mind again and then I want it

Man, I can't imagine ever choosing to sell a carbine (or any weapon) in order to get another carbine, all while keeping SIX IDENTICAL pistols. To each his own.
