I placed 5,000 rounds of CCI mini mags on backorder. Hey why not. They have a shipment due date that wasn't extreme. Oh well that was a mistake to make. The date for Midway receiving the shipment was 31 Dec 2013. I noticed today that the date was pushed back to November of 2014 so after confirming the change in delivery date I cancelled the order. Waiting a year for ammo is just not on my list of things to do this year. I'd rather start using a sling shot.

Same here but if they honor the price in November I'll leave the stuff on back order. The way I see it there isn't any mini mag ammo to be found anywhere. I still think something strange is going on with 22 ammo.

Of the three different brands of bulk .22LR I back-ordered: The expected "in-stock" dates are labeled "overdue" on two and June 2014 on the third. I'm going to try to cancel the one pushed back to June so "maybe" I'll receive the other two.

EDIT: I can't cancel one item... I'd have to cancel the entire order. The bad thing is, when (if) the other two are in stock soon they won't ship them to me because they'll wait for the third to be in stock in six months. It's the shipping method I chose... ship them all cheaply. By the time the third one is in stock the others probably won't be. We'll see...

That has been happening with lots of things for awhile now. Just have to grin and bear it. It is what it is right now. I back ordered some CCI .22 LR (22 LR TACTICAL) back in March (2013) from Midsouth. Dang if it hasn't been discontinued. *Sigh*

At least you still had a date. :)

I'm in the same boat Mike. But .... Their backorder policy will hold the first items for 90 days and then ship.

In my discussion with Midway I was told the expected dates were the dates they were told by CCI when the ammo would be delivered. Then CCI changed the order out to Nov 2014.

I can understand a 30 or 60 day delay but 11 months. No.

Off topic

Ala is fired up and already ahead 7-0

I agree - things aren't adding up. Let's review a bit:

  • MidwayUSA can't ship any for the better part of a year.
  • I was at a big Cabela's store today - they're limiting sales to 100 rounds/customer . . . but had ZERO in stock. Salesman said they're just not receiving shipments.
  • The CMP is looking a year out for .22 LR ammo deliveries.
  • Local WalMarts have been out for many months, though the associate says they sometimes receive "a few boxes" every couple of weeks.
And the gun rags are all saying "Plenty is being made and shipped, it's just high demand."

Is demand SO high that virtually NONE is reaching dealer - even BIG dealer - shelves? I mean it just isn't coming in.

Anywhere.

So if it's being made - WHERE IS IT?

In the past few months I have seen 22 in Walmart a couple of times and several LGS. I think some areas are a whole lot worse then others.

Where I am at .22 is on the shelves maybe an hour before it is all gone. Demand is freaking high. I think too many people have been shown what happens when you don't stock up on it and so are now doing it whenever possible. They don't plan on ever getting caught with their pants down again. I never really shot my .22's anyway so I ain't hurtin.

I got 3 boxes of mini mags last month at Walmart here in WI and 2 boxes at Cabala's in Billings Mt a few month before , ya just have to be in the right place at the right time , and I have past up a bunch of bulk stuff here there and every where ,

Yeah, by coincidence I went in and checked a backorder I had with Midway this morning as well. Stuff was due in early December, kept getting pushed back. Then it was overdue. Now it's due in next summer.

Absolutely crazy . . .

Just the uestion I'vebeen asking. If the are running 24/7 where is the ammo. When customers like walmart, dicks and Academy can't get any you can only conclude we are beining lied to by the ammo makers.

20/20 Hindsight

In the fall of 2012 Gander Mountain had CCI Mini-Mags and Stingers, 1600 & 900 rds. respectively per ammo box for $99. Now wishing I had bought another. Oh well, lesson learned. :(

I also placed a backorder with Midway in early December. But, the maximum I was allowed to include of MiniMags was 500, not 5000.

I have not checked the projected delivery date in a couple of weeks. Initially, I think it was to be the first week of February. That has probably changed.

I ordered some remingon and some aguila the one was listed as coming in 12/31 the other the end of January even if it never comes in im not really out anything and if it does I will still need it.

just because you're not seeing it when you walk in, doesn't mean they don't get it.

i've recently bought .22LR from cabela's 100 rds at a time, but if you combine it with some other stuff you need and use a free shipping coupon, it works out just fine.

i also stopped at the local dick's one evening just for the heck of it. walked to the back and got lucky. they had a couple cases of minimags for $10/box. i bought my limit of 3 boxes. wife bought her limit of 3. went back the next morning with 2 co-workers and we each bought our limit of 3. with this kind of buying behavior, it's impossible for manufacturers to keep up.

take off your tin foil hat. you're making the rest of us look bad.

I waited all of 2013 for .22LR to reappear. I was able to buy ONE brick all year long. If I wait another year without ammo, I might as well sell off my 22lr. I have ordered a couple 5000 cases of .22lr. I don't care if it takes an entire year to come in. It is better to wait a year and get a case than to wait a year and get nothing.

I hope so... but do we really expect them (trust them) to "hold" all that .22LR for 2-3 months when others are begging to buy it now? I suspect we can call it all gone.

I know people who've been at the the local WM every morning for the last six weeks and waited for the ammo to be stocked. They tell me they see .22LR maybe once per week and almost none of it... just a few 50 or 100 round boxes. I've done it myself a half dozen times and they stocked exactly ONE 100 round box in those six days.

As others asked: If there's so much of it then where is it?

*tinfoil hat on*

Not same company but I ordered 50,000 primers last May,,and some powder well got a call just before new year it was here...didn't cost me anything to wait..

Priced out of the market is one way to look at it, and unwilling to pay the price is another. Capitalism at work.

Unfortunately for those us of who refuse to pay the high prices, there are many who will, at least right now.

I'll shoot something else if I run out of normally priced .22 LR. :)
