So after shooting a TON of different .308 rifles, my heart was always with the M1a. I didn't really care at the end what rifle was more accurate what was easier to clean or what had accessories for it. I didn't care about ammo cost, I didn't care about what id have to spend to upgrade it. I just wanted it. The rifle chose me not the other way around.
Fast forward to Feb 2013 amidst all the chaos and price gouging of the gun market, I make a journey with my girlfriend. That journey leads us to a gun show and 8 gun stores in one day. The final store I walk into is barren. Cleaned out and ravaged. Upon entering the store, despite the barren shelves and clean walls, I immediately notice a Springfield M1a leaning on the wall in the corner of the store next to two Ak-47 rifles. I figure, oh well its still here bc they want 2500$ for it.
It was 1600$. It had a NM front sight as well.
I brought it home faster than Cuomo signed the SAFE act into law.
I also bought 8 20rd G.I. trademarked mags for 30$ a piece at the show earlier as well as 500rds. of 7.62x51.
I couldn't be luckier or happier.
By the same chance I also found a Ruger Mini-14 for my Girlfriend new in box for 600$. What did I do to deserve this!!!
Fast forward another month, I'm at a gun show and a vendor lets my girlfriend and I in as a vendor because we were holding the door open for the vendors in the cold (we got there very early). He says we are good people and good people deserve good things. He also gets us business contacts for her (shes an artist) and he introduces us to a couple other vendors. Extremely nice man. So we go inside and have an hour before it opens to shop. I find an older gentleman selling a sistema colt for 580$. After talking to him for half an hour and inspecting the pistol I talk him down to 300$ with the help of my vendor friend. My mind is blown. Took the pistol apart, no rust and after shooting it it functions perfect. It even has a new barrel and a new beaver tail safety. BTW, my girlfriend when asked said "if you don't buy it then I will and Ill shoot it better than you will" Haha I will keep her
All in all this was a blessing for sure and it was very nice as I've had a rough year last year. Just thought id share .
Also, I go into work last week and they give me a new Blackberry z10 for free for personal use just because. What a year.
